I think that we need to add one of the suicides categories to this article, maybe Category:Suicides in Switzerland, Category:Conductors who committed suicide, or maybe both. Thoughts? – ukexpat (talk) 15:38, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article currently says cor anglais, The Telegraph obit seems to agree [1], but The Guardian describes him as horn player, which unqualified would normally imply the brass instrument [2] (though Barbara Trapido's eponymous player was a cor anglais player), and The Times specifically says french horn. • I have just listened to the Desert Island Disc archive programme of Edward Downes (recorded 1969) and it was the horn, not cor anglais. The obits etc all seem to comment that he was invariably known as Ted, so we should consider moving the page to

I think he was Ted to his friends, but professionally he was Edward. For example, my recording of Rienzi shows him as Edward.--

And the mention of my recording reminds me of something that could be started. [3] lists 52 items. If someone has a proper catalogue that woudl be better. If the link has most of his available work, then of we go for the complete works rather than where he is accompanying Pavatotti or whoever in some lollipops we may get things down to manageable proportions. --

Well, I'm looking for a Downes discography right now. George Lloyd is composer of the week on BBC Radio 3 this week, and when I looked up his works on Amazon I came across a comment in one of them that someone preferred Edward Downes' version to the composer's own interpretation. George Lloyd conducts George Lloyd, recorded by Albany seems to be the most widely available, so I'd be interested in finding out about recordings of Edward Downes conducts Lloyd in particular.
