On Kurdish and Türkmen Alevis

I quote from page 110: Bu bölgeye bir kısmının Sivas Kangal diğer kısmının ise Elbistan Kantarma’dan geldiğini anlatmıştır.452 Köyün esas adının Doğanlı olduğunu ve iki kısma ayrıldığını, Aksu nehrinin güney tarafının Nefsi Doğanlı, kuzey tarafının ise Doğanlı-Karahasan dendiğini söylemiş, “Biz buranın Kürt Alevileriyiz ama kendimizi Kürt kabul etmiyoruz. Türkmen kabul ediyoruz. Halkımız Kürtçe konuşuyor ama şu an çocuklar içinde bir Kürtçe konuşan bulamazsın hep Türkçe konuşur. Doğrusu biz Kürt’e çok yakın değiliz biz Türkmen’iz” demiştir.453

Translation: He explained that part of this region came from Sivas Kangal and the other part from Elbistan Kantarma.452 He said that the main name of the village was Doğanlı and it was divided into two parts, that the south side of the Aksu river was called Nefsi Doğanlı and the north side was Doğanlı-Karahasan. We do not accept us as Kurds. We accept us as Turkmen. Our people speak Kurdish, but you can't find a Kurdish speaker among children, they always speak Turkish. In fact, we are not very close to Kurds, we are Turkmen.”453

So at least we can say that Türkmen Alevis live side by side with Kurdish Alevis, some of whom already lost their native Türkmen language and only can speak a corrupted form of Kurdish along with modern Turkish. I personally do not deny that there are also Turkified Kurdish Alevis. But the main point is that they were Kurdified Türkmen tribes before the Turkishization process began. Page 463 is also worth to be mentioned, the passage explains that according to their own sayings they learned Kurdish afterwards to hide their Alevi identity while knowing that they are Turks themselves.

I think any claim that Kurdish Alevis were originally Turkmen should be taken with a grant of salt. I Don't know the author but I would be careful with such info. The current info on the page is fine but I would not try to claim that (allof ) these Kurds were originally Turkmen. --Semsûrî (talk) 11:04, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I am ok with this. The Alevi settlements in general at least should be regarded as a mixed zone. التركمان (talk) 12:14, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
