Would anyone object to a move to Emilíana Torrini? - Haukur Þorgeirsson 22:37, 27 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I for one would support the move - I've always gone for Emilíana over Emiliana. You might get objections from some seeing as http://www.emilianatorrini.com/ tends to use Emiliana, but her signature on the front page certainly is Emilíana. Besides - you're Icelandic, so anyone who disagrees should probably defer to you on this! (Unless they also want to move
Bjork, and I suspect there would be some opposition to that...) CLW 08:50, 28 November 2005 (UTC)[reply

Defer to me because I'm Icelandic? Oh, if only it were as simple as that ;) - Haukur Þorgeirsson 09:36, 28 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, it's been five days. No-one has raised a protest and one person has explicitly supported the idea. I'll move the page, then. The Google hits are overwhelmingly against it but they are also for e.g. Lech Wałęsa as I mention on Talk:Níðhöggr.

If she becomes a naturalized British citizen and starts signing her name without the diacritic (the Händel >

Handel) kind of thing) then the page should be moved back. - Haukur Þorgeirsson 16:44, 2 December 2005 (UTC)[reply

I think it should stay at the most common version of the name, per policy. CDThieme 18:23, 2 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki-stalking me to revert a move agreed upon on the talk page of an article which you have never edited or shown interest in and then locking the redirect with a pointless edit so that it can't be moved back without administrator assistance is not the right way to go. If you want to omit the diacritic then make your case here and if people agree with you then your view will prevail. - Haukur Þorgeirsson 14:53, 3 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
If you violate accepted procedure and policy on page moves, if you say in response to criticism that the policies and procedures slow you down and you don't intend to follow them, and if most of your recent edits have been to move pages in ways people have told you are controversial, you can expect people to be checking your edits. In any case, I do object to not following policy here. Use the most common version of the name in English. No Account 18:27, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I have never said I don't intend to follow policy. It's just that your view of what policy is differs from mine. Page moves are an infinitesimal proportion of my edits. Since I thought this one might be controversial among the editors of the article I decided to discuss it on the talk page first. But you are, perhaps, under the impression that your omitting the acute accent was not a controversial move? - Haukur Þorgeirsson 20:06, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I support the correct usage of her name with diacritic. Olessi 20:51, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

As do I. ナイトスタリオン 22:03, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Yep. --Bjarki 22:12, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

On the other hand, her own website uses "Emiliana Torrini" without an accent mark, as do the media sources it links, such as the New Yorker and Rolling Stone Australia articles on her. Jonathunder 23:11, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the website argument is a good one. It would probably even be enough to convince me if it weren't for the fact that it prominently features a signature from the singer where the acute accent is clear.
Reasonable people can disagree and it's not a big deal either way. I moved the page once and I will not move it again, wherever it ends up. I'd also like to commend you, Jonathunder, for editing the article. - Haukur Þorgeirsson 11:24, 6 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I for one also support the í spelling. I cannot understand the objection some seem to have to diacritics. --SJK 00:23, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Error?

The link associated with the name “Dan Carey” goes to an article about a lacrosse player. This article mentions nothing about him collaborating with anyone to write or produce music. As far as I can tell this is the only “Dan Carey” that has an article. Either the link is going to the wrong article or the article on Dan Carey needs to be fixed. Rod Lockwood (talk) 22:49, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

While I can't confirm the link to Emiliana,
Dan Carey (music) seems more likely to be correct, so I've edited the article cojoco (talk) 23:00, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply
