People Removing the info i'm adding

Sorry, but i keep updating the page every 3 weeks or so, (stats on his record aginst tottenham, assist and goal against fulham etc) and people keep removing it, how come? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 144.82.106.47 (talkcontribs) 11:58, May 10, 2007

usually if the information is not very notable or some sort of a milestone you get expect it to be removed. Because imagine if he's only 23 now and so many of his goals/moves/assists are chartered in a few years time the article length is just going to explode. Chensiyuan 19:59, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Brother

On Football Manager 06/07 there is a young Adebayor listed in the Metz U18. Ade is mentioned in his favourite personel. If it's his younger brother it might be worth mentioning. PlayCollective 01:34, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

- It doesn't seem unlikely. They are usually quite accurate actually. Google and see if you can find out something, could be his brother or maybe another relative... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.202.218.230 (talk) 16:47, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Poor quality article

This, without a doubt is the worst Wikipedia article that I've ever seen. The Arsenal section for a starter is littered with journalistic magazine style information that wouldn't look out of place in a tabloid. If this isn't sorted soon then it is going to have to be addressed at WikiProject Football. Jazza5 (talk) 17:13, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

CL Runner Up?

Should this still count for him? He was cup tied and ineligible for the Champions League with Arsenal that season. Robixsmash (talk) 20:07, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Style of play?

I reverted a change earlier removing the style of play section. The claims are good, but I think a major change like that should be discussed first. I'm fairly indifferent to the matter. Thoughts? – moonty (talk) (contribs) 05:45, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Style of play sections are fairly common, even amongst good and featured articles (e.g. Thierry Henry and/or Duncan Edwards). In a wider context the same can be said of articles on basketballers. But most of the time these sections are quite hard to write (POV etc.). Chensiyuan (talk) 08:27, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe I was a bit hasty in removing it from this article, but I do not like "Style of play" sections because a majority of them are nothing but opinion ("He is known for this or that") and are mostly gleaned from what's written in the press. They offer nothing encyclopedic.--
chitchat 20:23, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply

I am okay with them because an entry purely on statistics and awards hardly breathe any life or insight into what the player was like qua player. E.g. whether he is fast, can dribble, scores mostly with head... Chensiyuan (talk) 04:36, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Saying that he scored a "stunning volley" at a "seemingly impossible angle" is nothing but POV and weasel words. It does not represent a neutral viewpoint. Plus, a list of goals he scored is sports commentary, which doesn't belong either.

Adebayor's wage listed in article

The wage given (80,000) is a newspaper journo's guesstimate. It is not reliable information in any sense. If this figure was a matter of general consensus, it might be appropriate to say that the figure has been widely reported as £X, but there isn't even any consensus. I've seen figures from about 50k to 120k+. Since Arsenal club policy is not to reveal individuals' contract details, it is unlikely that any source is reliable.

Anyway, a newspaper's speculative article may be published, but it's not subject to any kind of review process. The particular newspaper cited has 'a poor reputation for fact-checking [and] rel[ies] heavily on rumors and personal opinions.'

92.234.8.173 (talk) 13:18, 9 June 2009 (UTC)Josh[reply]

You're saying The Daily Telegraph -- the source in question -- does not meet RS in Wikipedia? Chensiyuan (talk) 14:45, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Absolutely. They'd be a RS for a match score, but not for a transfer fee or wage report unless released by the club. I don't think any newspaper is a reliable source for that kind of information, but particularly not the Daily Telegraph, which has a reputation as one of the most speculative tabloid-esque news outlets when it comes to football transfer stories.
As for the somewhat irrelevant question of whether newspapers can be reliable sources, the answer is largely no. They are abused frequently on Wikipedia to 'reference' things that are unproven on the basis that a non-peer-reviewed, unaccountable newspaper article has said it is so. The opinion of a journalist is usually no more suitable material for Wikipedia than the opinion of a Wikipediphile.92.234.8.173 (talk) 15:09, 9 June 2009 (UTC)Josh[reply]
Oh, one more thing: if the Telegraph was reliable on this, the reference would be interchangeable with one each from all of The Times, The Sun, The Daily Mail, the BBC, Sky Sports, etc. The fact that it's not is what makes this an unacceptable source. That, and the fact that the figure given is likely to be inflated by ~50%. 92.234.8.173 (talk) 15:13, 9 June 2009 (UTC)Josh[reply]
Should it even be in the article in the first place, even if it is true? That's highly debatable. "Biographies of living persons must be written conservatively, with regard for the subject's privacy. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a tabloid paper; it is not our job to be sensationalist, or to be the primary vehicle for the spread of titillating claims about people's lives." 92.234.8.173 (talk) 15:17, 9 June 2009 (UTC)Still Josh :)[reply]

Controversy

Arsenal fans do not use any racially insensitive songs when singing about Adebayor. The song is : "Adebayor, Adebayor, We've got Arshavin. Fuck Adebayor" Nothing racist in that. I'd appreciate it if in the Controversy section this is addressed as Arsenal fans don't sing that, but other teams did sing the racially insensitive song when he was playing for Arsenal.

Should I add the article the fact that Emmanuel Adebayor wore a shirt with a gun to a 50 cent concert which later led to the release questionable? I have a link to support the claim[3] Dg-reg-fd-1972 (talk) 08:13, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think it's particularly noteworthy story that needs to be mentioned in this article. The story appears to have originated from The Sun and just seems to be typical tabloid nonsense complete with a quote from an unnamed "shocked onlooker".

Conversion to Islam?

At time of writing, there are doubts about whether he has converted. Apparently, the "Imam" shown in the video, is in fact a well known local comedian according to some sources. The Daily Mirror 7.7.15 uses "appears to convert to Islam" in their headline. The Daily Telegraph of the same date has in the comments section (1) (from Kenwyne Knowler) "The 'priest' in your article is a Nigerian comedian Mr Ibu." and (2) (from Abiola commenting on the vid that goes with the story) "Do some research Telegraph...the so called priest in your picture is a Nigerian actor/comedian called Mr Ibu!

'Glory be to God' is also something a lot of religious Africans use regularly so doesn't do anything to confirm how pious someone is. Lastly that video doesnt really confirm anything, Adebayor could easily be attending someone's ceremony and the person happens to be a Muslim. Only time will tell if he truly converted or not".46.7.85.68 (talk) 14:42, 9 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Should be "was" a professional footballer who "played" as a forward

First paragraph suggests that the player is active, but later referenced text confirms he has no active contract. He has no team or international activity, so the individual should be considered a former player at this point. Racial abuse from Arsenal fans?

Funny that an article locked for quality control would include something like that. There is no source and indeed, no course can be added since it didn't happen. Please remove the allegations of racial abuse by Arsenal fans concerning Adebayor's celebration on his return to the club while playing for Man City. There certainly was abuse but it certainly was not racially motivated nor contained any racist content. Adebayor himself sited that it was a reaction to a lack of respect he felt he was shown as a former player at the club, he never said anything about racism. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JohnnyMaverik (talkcontribs) 11:47, 5 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Arsenal medals honours

Did he not receive any runner up medal in the two final's he got sent off in? Govvy (talk) 09:56, 26 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Disciplinary Issues.

Is there any reason why there appears to be little or no mention of his disciplinary record. As an example, he was sent to train with the Academy players, by two different managers while he was playing for Spurs (Andre Villas Boas and Mauricio Pochettino). During this period, he was given time off to attend Togo international games. On one of these occasions, he returned three days late. On a second occasion when he was given time off to attend a Togo match, he never arrived, leading to the then manager saying saying he would never be selected again while he was manager.46.7.195.132 (talk) 20:43, 22 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
