There is a standard format for the titles of articles on monarchs, and there is no reason for Emperor Higashiyama to be exempt from this. Just as

Emperor Go-Toba of Japan and Richard II of England are listed as such, so should this article be moved back to "Emperor Higashiyama of Japan". LordAmeth 11:03, 18 August 2005 (UTC)[reply

This discussion is already going on without you at
Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (Japan-related articles). The consensus at this point (with a couple of exceptions) is that the titles should be "Emperor X" only. (The person who moved this article is a rogue who is just acting unilaterally.) The Wikipedia rules on naming monarchs makes an exception for Asian monarchs and the rule for adding the country name preemptively only applies to European monarchs where there might be confusion. There is no possibility of confusing Emperor Higashiyama. Even the word Higashiyama is about as Japanese as you can get. In any event, there is presently zero support for leaving the "of Japan" on the titles. Please continue this discussion at the above referenced page. -Jefu

Please see the current battle situation of names of Japanese monarchs at [1]. The articles have recently been moving, some of them quite much. Cross-section of the prevalent usage at the moment you are checking may however change in blinks of eyes. 217.140.193.123 16:49, 23 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
