SNL affair

i just wanted to mention that lee ving didnt call anyone a homosexual. the lyrics of the song "new yorks alright (if you like saxophones)" say "new yorks alright if youre a homosexual" and if youll notice he moves away from the mic when he says it.

You're right. I fixed the quote. But the second time he sings that line he says it loud and clear. It's only the first time he pulls away from the microphone. My theory is that it was in the middle of that song Ving realized they weren't going to get to finish their set, so he quit toning it down. --Osbojos 06:46, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The account of the SNL affair differs here from what's on the Lee Ving Wikipedia page. The latter comes across as more credible: I saw the episode only in a rerun on Comedy Central, and though the camera did indeed fade at the beginning of "Let's Have a War," a fade during the initial live airing seems unlikely.

Also, I'm almost certain they began with "Beef Bologna," then did "New York's Alright if You Like Saxaphones" and then started "Let's Have a War." I have no memory of them playing "I Don't Care About You." I doubt this was cut from the re-airing that I saw, because I remember a seamless camera pan from Donald Pleasance introducing them to Lee beginning Beef Bologna. Maybe whoever wrote this section was confused by The Decline of the Western Civilization, in which the Fear segment began with "I Don't Care about You." 128.42.110.246 (talk) 22:52, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to rewrite the entire SNL bit at some point... It doesn't even corroborate against the video of the set that's online (ie. saying Ving said the "good to be in New Jersey" line THEN playing Beef Bologna, which isn't what happens). I haven't seen a video online that includes them playing "I Don't Care about You," but I've also seen the video of them referred to as their second set. I don't like how article says they were forced off of the Neighbors soundtrack project after Belushi's death, which is a bit odd considering Belushi died 4 months after the movie was released. Most tellings of the story say he got them on SNL to make up for them being dropped from the film. There's plenty of good info to be cited in various interviews with Lee Ving and Ian MacKaye. Maybe there's some printed material somewhere with Belushi's point of view before he died. I'll come back to this in the future when I get a chance to sit and work on it, and I'd like to hear what others think. --66.30.193.254 (talk) 18:24, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Moving the SNL content to the Fear (band) article

Why is the section about the SNL incident in this article, instead of the band article (Fear (band))? It's an incident involving the band, not just this particular member and it doesn't belong here. Strangely, the band article has no content on this incident. Huh? Nusumareta (talk) 02:52, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

So fix it. Placing a tag on it probably isn't going to result in any change. --IllaZilla (talk) 15:58, 8 January 2013 (UTC)[reply

"Can't you afford..."

Doesn't the quote go something like -- "Who let all you longhairs in here? It's 1980, can't you afford a fucking haircut?" This seems to imply he was talking to the whole audience, not a particular member. -- Robb

Line Ups

I corrected the line ups. Flea played bass between "The Record" and "More Beer". Also, there were a number of bassists between 1986 and 1993, none of which were Flea.

Line Ups II

You're right, Flea was FEAR's bass player for most of the time inbetween those 2 albums. Although, in the time between Derf and Flea there was Eric "Kitabu" Feldman (from Captain Beefheart and Pere Ubu amongst others) who was part of the band briefly towards the end of 1982. It was him who appeared on the 'Fuck Christmas' single, not Derf.

From the 'Eric Feldman' discography section of the Captain Beefheart site in reference to Fuck Christmas:

    • "EDF played bass on this one-off collaboration. The band were between bass players, and he (credited as Eric Kitabu Feldman) was a friend/room-mate of the drummer (Spit Stix aka Tim Leitch)."

1983

I see that someone added 'Joe Colwell' as FEAR's lead guitarist in 1983. Could someone please provide some sources for that, because I'm pretty big on FEAR and I've never heard him mentioned anywhere. Thanks for that. Wadey4 11:41, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merge proposal: Fuck Christmas

This appears to be a minor single release by the band, and I'm not really seeing much indication that it merits a standalone article. Chubbles (talk) 15:48, 19 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Support: I managed to dig up this Spin review but nothing else. Perhaps if someone else can find more sources then this could turn around but not at present. QuietHere (talk) 12:07, 11 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
