Origin of name

The article states that the name is related to Fergus. This seems to be true in County Kerry, Ireland. But in England, particularly in the south and southwest (Wiltshire and Somerset), it is believed to have derived from the Norman surname Ferrers. So it is noted in genealogical research I have done on the family name. And at least in England, this is far more likely the the Irish version from Fergus. Probably the name has two origins which have resulted in the same anglicised spelling. Ptilinopus (talk) 04:25, 27 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
