Edit request

Good day, there are several updates I'd like to submit for this article because they are outdated and/or incorrect. I've also included some updated, more recent information.

1) Please correct the number of states (now at 19) and basic bank information. Here is suggested text for the second sentence: First Citizens operates in 19 states and provides financial services to individuals, businesses and professionals.[1]

2) Suggest removing the second paragraph since information is outdated and updating the asset size with the following: As of June 30, 2020, First Citizens BancShares reported $47.87 billion in assets.[2]

3) Suggested replacement sentence to correct state names and number of employees, which also needs to be corrected in the info box:

As of December 31, 2019, BancShares operated more than 570 branches in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, Missouri, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin. BancShares and its subsidiaries employ more than 7,000 people.[3]

4) Suggestion: Would it be better to move the first and second paragraphs from the Timeline section to the History section, which seems more appropriate: Moving the paragraphs "First Citizens Bank, first known as Bank of Smithfield ... and rose to president in 1935." to top of timeline.

5) Consider adding the following information about the Holding family leading the bank after R.P. Holding's death. Suggestion:

When R.P. Holding passed away in 1957, his three sons followed in his footsteps and led the bank, Robert Holding Jr., then 31; Lewis R. Holding, 29; and Frank P. Holding, then 27.[4](subscription required)

6) Suggest adding information about the current bank leaders who are members of the Holding family. Suggestion:

Today, R.P. Holding’s grandson, Frank Holding Jr., serves as Chairman and CEO, and his granddaughter, Hope Holding Bryant, is Vice Chair.[5]

7) Please delete the paragraph about Citizens Bancshares "Dec. 22, 2005, Citizens Bancshares restated its previously announced ..." It is not correct. This is not referring to First Citizens BancShares but another company, Citizens Bancshares. It doesn't apply to First Citizens BancShares.

8) Consider deleting the current paragraph about former IronStone Bank subsidiary and replacing it with updated information.

Suggested Deletion: "First Citizens filed a merger application with federal regulators.. ... IronStone will continue to operate under its name."

Suggested replacement: On October 8, 2010, First Citizens Bank filed an application with federal and state regulators to merge with IronStone Bank, the former thrift subsidiary of holding company First Citizens BancShares. [6] In October 2011, First Citizens Bank announced that its IronStone Bank division completed its conversion to the First Citizens Bank name. [7](subscription required)

9) Consider deleting: First Citizens now has 14 branches in Colorado, 3 of them IronStone. -- This information is now out of date.

10) Suggested addition: In the sentence that begins "Oct. 1, 2014," consider saying "one of" the largest banks in the United States controlled by a single family.

11) Consider adding the following to the history:

On Dec. 18, 2017, First Citizens Bank announced its acquisition of HomeBancorp, a $911.9 million asset bank in Florida.[8]

On June 27, 2018, First Citizens agreed to purchase Capital Commerce Bancorp (Securant Bank).[9]

On Nov. 5, 2018, First Citizens completed its purchase of South Carolina’s Palmetto Heritage BancShares.[10]

On Nov. 16, 2018, First Citizens expanded its Florida footprint with the planned purchase of Biscayne Bancshares.[11]

On April 24, 2019, First Citizens agreed to buy Franklin, N.C.-based Entegra Financial Corp., the parent company of Entegra Bank. [12]

On April 24, 2019, First Citizens announced a merger agreement to purchase Duluth, Georgia-based Community Financial and its banking subsidiary Gwinnett Community Bank.[13]

11) Consider deleting the map and text of First Citizens branch footprint, which does not include all of its branches and is outdated and unreferenced, so it is currently incorrect.

12) Some facts in the history and timeline sections are repeating, could they be consolidated?

13) Consider adding the following acquisitions to the timeline section.

2016 – acquired North Milwaukee State Bank of Milwaukee, Wisconsin[14], First CornerStone Bank of King of Prussia, Pennsylvania[15], and Bank of Virginia of Midlothian, Virginia[16].

2017 – acquired Harvest Community Bank of Pennsville, New Jersey[17], and Guaranty Bank of Milwaukee, Wisconsin[18]

2018 — announced merger with HomeBanc of Tampa, Florida[19], and Securant Bank and Trust of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin.[20]

2018 – acquired Palmetto Heritage Bank of Pawleys Island, South Carolina [21]

2019 - acquired Biscayne Bank[22] and Entegra Bank of Franklin, North Carolina.[23]

2020 – acquired Gwinnett Community Bank of Duluth, Georgia.[24]

14) Consider adding information about the bank and its partnership with Teen Cancer America

First Citizens Bank and Teen Cancer America

First Citizens Bank is a major sponsor of national nonprofit Teen Cancer America (TCA). The bank launched its support of TCA in 2015.[25] In September 2019, Rogert Daltrey, one of the co-founders of TCA and lead singer of The Who, visited Bon Secours St. Francis Health System to help officially unveil the hospital’s new Hawkins Family Center for Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Care, which was made possible by a gift from First Citizens Bank and TCA and Dr. Joseph O. Hawkins, a cancer survivor, and his family.[26] First Citizens has also supported teen cancer units at Duke Cancer Institute in Durham, North Carolina[27]; UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina[28]; Prisma Health Cancer Institute in Greenville, South Carolina[29]; and Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennesee.[30]

Thanks for your consideration of these updates.

Hi @WFNC: Thank you for using the request edit template and for your patience in waiting for a response. I added your paid editing status to the top of the page so that you do not need to declare it every time you want to make an edit to this page. I will assess your request but it will take me a few days, or perhaps longer, to complete so I thank you for your patience. Here are some notes below:
1) 2) and 3): Can you post the page numbers all of this information appears on?
4) I think this was completed by another editor. I also don't like the timeline and would wish it was put into prose and summarized.
5) I would not accept as-is. Avoid clichés and idioms like "followed in his footsteps" and the son's ages. I think it can be included if it is rewritten. I also can't read the article so in order for this to be included you will need to email me a pdf of the article. Do not post the article text or a link to the text on Wikipedia.
6) We try to avoid "Today" or "currently" because the text will need to be changed when a new person becomes the chair. Instead, we want information about when they became chair. Some example text might be: "Frank Holding Jr., became Chairman and CEO of the company in (insert year here)"
7) Although it was already removed I checked the information again. A Google search makes me believe that First Citizens BancShares and Citizens Bancshares are different companies. If someone disagrees, please comment below.
8) I think the two sentences should be combined. Remove the information about filing a proposal to merge. Instead, give us the date when the two companies merged.
9) Information has already been removed.
I will continue this at a later date. Z1720 (talk) 03:33, 8 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
10) Section has been converted to a table by a subsequent edit.
11) This map has been removed by another editor.
12) Please post what you want the text to say.
13) These have already been added, although I am concerned about the volume of banks listed in acquisitions. I hope another editor will review and remove non-notable entries.
14) Not added. This information is not notable for this article and Wikipedia is not here to promote a company's good works. A company needs to do more than sponsor an organisation to merit its inclusion in its article.

Those are my thoughts. I am going to close this ticket. Please post your responses below @WFNC: if you want any other additions. Z1720 (talk) 20:00, 9 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
