2008

I have corrected and cleaned up the intro. First of all: the city of Gardez (population: 18,000) is not identical with the province it is situated in. Secondly, one of the given sources was a dead link, the other did not support the claim. I have restored the version based on

Encyclopaedia Iranica and have added another source regarding the city's population. Tājik (talk) 17:15, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply

I have reverted the following edit by an IP who had deleted sources. Tājik (talk) 18:41, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

there are only a few villages of tajiks in paktia, the information about population and langauges is uncorrect and must be revisded. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.210.162.124 (talk) 21:11, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Population

"According to the Encyclopaedia Iranica, Gardēz is a city "belonging to a network of old isolated Tājīk settlements in southern Afghanistan that are remnants of a time when Pashto had not yet reached the area."

I have copied that from the article - it is written under Population Category. What has that information got to do with the population of Gardez City? Doesn't that fall under history (past)?

And why was it necessary to add "that are remnants of a time when Pashto had not yet reached the area."? The editor is only trying to attack the Pashtun ethnic group of Afghanistan other wise it was not necessary to add that.

Still, I believe that information does not belong there. If the editor does not justify his/her edit, I will have no option but to delete the info. At the same time, I will try my best to find reliable information for the Population Category. (Ketabtoon (talk) 05:26, 25 July 2009 (UTC))[reply]

You should be careful with attacking other editors, especially since your own edits - at least - suggest that you are pushing for Pashtun ethno-POV. Putting that aside: I have written the article, and it is mostly based on the respective article in the
Encyclopaedia Iranica. Iranica is an authoritative source and you can't remove it simply because of your own feelings. Tajik (talk) 13:09, 25 July 2009 (UTC)[reply
]
About ethno-POV, you have to take a look at your edits and you will see that you are trying to give a negative image to Pashtuns in every article that you edit.
You didn't get my point. What you have written under Population Category does not give any information about the current population of the City. It is talking about the history of the places and how it was a network of old isolated Tajik settlements in southern Afghanistan.
We should wait and see what a third and fourth person will say about the issue. (Ketabtoon (talk) 16:24, 25 July 2009 (UTC))[reply]
Again: instead of attacking others, you should first read the article and its history and then criticize it. Prior to the current version, that sentence was part of the introduction. A few IP vandals (mostly sockpuppets of banned
talk · contribs)) removed it. Then I decided to take that sentence away from the intro and put it into the main body of the text. So what is your problem with it now? Tajik (talk) 16:55, 25 July 2009 (UTC)[reply
]
now that we have added information about the population of the city, thre is no problem adding the part from Iranica. (Ketabtoon (talk) 17:16, 25 July 2009 (UTC))[reply]

Chess

Actually I was looking for a phenomenon in informal chess playing. Gardez is French for "watch out". --2.245.127.181 (talk) 18:23, 22 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

False statement about city's population.

"The majority of the city's native population is Tajik. But recently, with the migration of Pashtun tribes from different parts of Paktia to this city, Pashtuns have taken over the majority of the population of this city."

How recently? yesterday? last week? last month? last year? last decade? last century? last millennium?

Also the reference [2] does not mention anything about migratory Pashtun tribes. It only mentions "The population is overwhelmingly Pashtun..."

Even though the statement has been disputed multiple times, it is still there. If it should be in the introduction, then it should be written in every other city's introduction as well. For example, every American city's introduction should state that the native population was the relevant native tribe such as the Innu, Sawanwa, Lakota or Numu but recently Europeans tribes have taken over the majority of the population of that particular city.
