Factual issues

Some factual issues in the present Gouyen article (August 17, 2009) needed correction. First, the birth date is incorrect--the Apache wars were mostly over in the 1880s (Geronimo surrendered in 1886), making the 1880 date-of-birth impossible. Stockel (2000) gives a birth date circa 1857 which seems reasonable. Second, Tres Castillos is in Mexico--not New Mexico; the 1880 battle when Victorio was killed is fairly well documented. Third, the chronology is not correct in the present article, which places the Tres Castillos battle occurring before the Comanche incident. According to Stockel (2000) and piecing other sources together, the Comanche incident occurred before the Battle of Tres Castillos. The date of the Comanche incident is subject to some question--according to the oral account documented in Robinson (2000) it was around 1870, while Stockel (2000) gives a date 1879. Such inconsistencies are to be expected from oral histories. To correct these problems, I have rewritten much of the existing the article. Pinethicket (talk) 08:53, 17 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
