It should be noted that he belongs to the c. 10% minority of Icelanders that has a surname, Thorlacius (a latinized version of a -son name created by a 17th century Bishop), so it would be correct to categorize him under Thorlacius rather than Guðni, even if he doesn't use it as a surname, but goes by Guðni Th. @Batmacumba: First, thank you for the article! I think I'm going to import it into German-language Wikipedia and use it as a base for an article there. And: Yes, I agree that he's known as Guðni Th. Jóhannesson and "Thorlacius" (the family name of his mother according to the article you used as a main source here) isn't widely seen in its unabbreviated form when referring to him. Oh, and a note / question, Batmacumba: You write "Guðni left the Catholic Church following reports of sexual abuse from various Catholic priests." Actually, the mbl.is article talks less specifically about "frétta af glæp­um ým­issa kaþólskra presta", that is (from my limited understanding of Icelandic), "reports of crimes (glæpum) by various Catholic priests" without specifying the crimes. Of course, I too think that your interpretation is the most likely one, but now as I'm translating into German, I think that a better/clearer source would be good. Maybe you can find something? His English language web site has "The lacklustre response of the Catholic Church in the face of allegations of criminal abuses within the institution compelled me to resign from it."[1] He appears to be extremely fluent in English and chose to say "criminal abuses" which is why I used those words when I edited this article. The Icelandic version of his site uses "Slæleg viðbrögð kaþólsku kirkjunnar við skýrum ásökunum um glæpi innan hennar urðu til þess að ég sagði mig í kyrrþey úr henni."^[2] where in English it's "allegations of crimes" and his main issue was that the church's response was slow and muted.

While this is most likely about the Catholic Church sexual abuse cases that's conjecture on our part to say so. --Marc Kupper|talk 02:03, 3 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, of course we should try to obtain a portrait photo. Per Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria, a non-free photo could be used in English Wikipedia, but that would not be a very good solution and not applicable in many other Wikipedia language versions. I think we should try to find a photo of Guðni alone. I don't think it's common to include multiple individuals in the top photo for individuals on Wikipedia. Could lead to confusion over who the article is about.

As I'm mainly active in German-language Wikipedia, I'm not very familiar with standard practices in English WP. Well, to me, the Ancestry section, added by an IP contributor in June, seems a bit odd. Is it really customary in English-language Wikipedia to add a tree of (non-notable) ancestors to articles about heads of state? I don't quite see what kind of insight readers gain from knowing that he is the grandson of one Sæmundur Leópold Jóhannesson and Sigurveig Kristín Sólveig Guðmundsdóttir etc. I'm not extremely opposed to that "Ancestry" section, it just doesn't seem particularly interesting or useful.
