Book of condolence

Typing "book of condolence" redirects you here. A book of condolence is hardly a guest book. It's a book wherein you leave messages of, well, condolence! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.77.201.204 (talk) 18:19, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Redirecting 'Book of Condolence' here is really inappropriate - perhaps when the original version of this article, which discussed all types of guestbooks, rather than just the web versions, was present, it was appropriate.

Really, though, is this article needed? "Guestbook" and "Book of Condolence" would seem like topics for the Wiktionary, not Wikipedia - they are just definition, after all.

Vandalism

Any idea where it emanated from? I just blocked most of the IPs involved in the attack. Enigmamsg 19:51, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Adding up to date sources of scholarly readings about guestbooks and visitor books

Hi there, I'm not sure how you do this here, but there are good recent works on guestbooks and visitor books. Here they are from a cultural and language perspective:

Stamou, A. G., & Paraskevolpoulos, S. (2004). Images of nature by tourism and environmentalist discourses in visitors books: a critical discourse analysis of ecotourism. Discourse & Society, 15(1), 105-129

Noy, C. (2008). Mediation Materialized: The Semiotics of a Visitor Book at an Israeli Commemoration Site. Critical Studies in Media Communication, 25(2), 175-195.

Noy, C. (2009). 'I WAS HERE!': Addressivity structures and inscribing practices as indexical resources. Discourse Studies, 11(4), 421-440.

From a tourism studies perspective:

Stamou, A. G., & Paraskevolpoulos, S. (2003). Ecotourism experiences in visitors' books of a Greek reserve: A critical discourse analysis perspective. Sociologia Ruralis, 43(1), 34-55

Noy, C. (2008). Pages as stages: A performance approach to visitor books. Annals of Tourism Research, 35(2), 509-528.

I'm Chaim Noy and if I can help in any other way please let me know at [email protected]. Also, if this seems like negative self-promotion of my studies of visitor books (which are my field of expertise), then feel free to delete my studies and incorporate only others' studies.
