Joseph Shield Nicholson - Silver Medallist 1918

Joseph Shield Nicholson was awarded the Silver Medal in 1918. He has a Wikipedia article here but I can't work out how to link it to his name. Can someone help with this? Thanks.Noracrentiss (talk) 04:04, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of Interest edit request

Here I suggest how to disambiguate the link to the 1998 recipient of the Guy Medal in Bronze. The link should be to David_Firth_(statistician). I know this because I an the subject of that page, and I was recipient of the 1998 Guy Medal in Bronze. It's ancient history by now, but in case external evidence is needed there is still trace of it on the web, eg [1] .

In case anyone is nervous about that (but I don't think they should be!): an alternative link would be directly to the external web page of David Firth, [2].

There does not need to be any ambiguity.

Not done None of the other years have a disambiguate link. Furthermore, it would probably be better to direct readers to this article, not to David Firth. Z1720 (talk) 18:16, 16 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I don't understand, though. There seems to be inconsistency?
For example, Peter McCullagh was a recipient of both the Bronze and the Silver. And the links both point to Peter McCullagh, as seems appropriate.
David Firth also was a recipient of both the Bronze and the Silver. But the links (as things stand) point to different places. My suggestion is that those links should both be David Firth. Why is that a bad idea? (I am new to Wikipedia just this week, so please be gentle with me! I really do want to understand how it all works.)

Apologies if it was unclear what I was suggesting.
There is an even closer analogy, on the same page. Gareth Roberts received the Bronze medal in 1997 and the Silver medal in 2008. In both cases the link is to Gareth Roberts.
Surely, consistency demands that the link David Firth be used in a similar way for both the 1998 Bronze and the 2012 Silver entries in the list?
