Where did that genre come from?

Yea...i've listen to this at least at least a 100x now, and there is no hint of any R&B rythmes anywhere in this song. This is stricty a 'Salsa-Cumbia + Reggaeton beat' inspired song, and is in perfect description of Shakira's description of the song. Now maybe if they'd said it got a bit of rap influences, that'd make a bit more sense, but as it is, this song has no r&b influences known or described by the artist who made it. This is what confusing me. A few months ago, the genre was just reggaeton, then it turned to Latin pop, then to reggaeton, then to cumbia, salsa and pop. What is the genre really? I expected better from wiki

OK, my friend has an updated version of the Media Traffic points sales thingy, and according to it, this song is now a little over 13x platinum not 9x. I'd expect wikipedia to have the latest updates about things like this but ohh well. Please upate the sales chart info. —The preceding

Fly me to the Moon

This song uses the same chord sequence as 'Fly me to the moon'. Worth mentioning, and possibly wondering whether they paid anyone for what might amount to copyright infringement?

Music and structure

As one would see if they visited the We Belong Together article, I believe that Hips Don't Lie requires a section documenting its musical structure. I am aware that it is not the simplest task to complete, but because this song has received incredible radio airplay and music-video rotation, its success should be summarized into one section; this includes the music and not just the chart performance, though both are definitely important. Terrible World Cup song

How can I inform FIFA that this song is terrible?

First, that doesnt come to be discussed here. Second, the song is great for the world cup, in his Bamboo version. I was on the states for the final game (im from colombia, by the way) and it was so damm great listening Colombia present at such event. Anyway, that doesnt matter

I've changed the statement that this was their first number one in the UK and the US- the US part is true, but Wyclef Jean had two number ones in the UK with the Fugees. -- Dandelions

But it was thier first collaborative #1.

I'm about to remove the external links to the videos since they are likely to infringe the copyright of the video's producers, and we have no way of knowing if apkguy2006 at You Tube, the submitter of the video, owns the copyright.

Canadian chart

What is with the obsession of the person who signs in with different accounts and IP addresses and removes just the Canadian chart information? Seems like a strange thing to be preoccupied with... is it someone who is anti-Shakira? or anti-Canadian? or anti-Canadian music charts? or anti-Shakira-having-a-hit-song-in-Canada? Jerry Rivera plagiarism issue?

I included two references to the sampling of Jerry Rivera's "Amores Como El Nuestro"... however, those two references I sourced point to a plagiarism issue with Shakira possibly not asking permission to use the sample. Wrong chart info

The article stated that the song reached number six on Sweden's hitchart, while it only reached forty-five. It may have peaked higher on the download chart, but seeing as how that chart doesn't exist anymore I don't find it relevant.

Spanish version

The name of the spanish version is NOT Las caderas no mienten (será, será). IS Será, será (las caderas no mienten).

Actually, the official spanish title of the song is "Hips Don't Lie (En Español)", so everybody (and Shakira helself) translate the title to "Las Caderas No Mienten" and "Será, Será" is only the first verse of the chorus. Whichever is allright, "Las Caderas No Mienten (Será, Será)" or "Será, Será (Las Caderas No Mienten".McMare's 08:45, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pressing Charges

  • Okay, first, "pressing charges" is normally used to describe criminal matters, not something civil like plagiarism or perhaps more accurately, copyright violation. (Yes, yes, I know copyright violation can be criminal but that's really stretching it in a case like this.)
  • Second, when speaking of "pressing charges" I think the term is usually "against someone" and not "on someone."

Not #1 in 55 Countries

This article claims that "Hips Don't Lie" went to #1 in "at least 55 countries." This incorrect and is not supported by a reliable source - the O2 could just include that for promotion of her shows. Madonna's song "Hung Up" has the Guinness World Record of topping the charts in the most countries, at 45. This was listed in the 2007 issue, published at the end of 2006, after "Hips Don't Lie" had already charted in most, if not all, countries. Not only this, but Wikipedia's own list of record charts only displays 37 countries (or 38 if Belgium's are counted seperately), many of which the song did not reach #1 in. Credited songwriters

Different sources credit different songwriters. BMI says that seven people are credited: Omar Alfanno (listed twice), Luis Días, Jerry Duplessis, Wyclef Jean, LaTavia Parker, Archie Pena and Shakira. The printed single liner notes give only five names, leaving out Luis Días and Archie Pena. The single credits "Archi Pena" (spelling variant) as a percussionist, along with other drummers.
