Just a note on my correction that Thomas Peel came out on the Gilmore not the Parmelia: readers of Ernest Scott's A Short History of Australia will read that Peel came out on the Parmelia but this is incorrect. All other reliable references state that he came out in the Gilmore. User:Hesperian 01:43, 10 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

To do

List of things that this article still needs (feel free to add to this):

  • expand Aboriginal history of Western Australia (massacres, Role of Rottnest Island, explorers dependence upon, Aboriginal slavery in pastoral and pearling industries, concentration camps at Moore River and Carolup, stolen generations.
  • expand timeline of european exploration. there's still a few important ones missing.
  • discuss 1920's group settlement scheme (maybe a new article).
  • discuss in more detail, penal settlement arrangements. ie. convicts and their role in the colony.
  • inland exploration
  • choice of capital as perth vs australind?
  • table of population growth?

Nickel & iron ore boom of the 1960s is worth mentioning perhaps.

Also, I notice that the above comment about WA Inc has been struck out despite there being nothing about it in the main article. Have I missed something? Aboriginal History of Western Australia

Aboriginal history is wholly lacking. What about Henry Princep and A.O.Neville and the 1905 Aboriginal Act and various ammendments? A list of Royal Commissions on Aboriginal Affairs would be useful.

Maybe but we are going to have to get a handle on what he was known as - the refs I have come across suggest the Jacques Felix were not commonly used - and now we have baron - we need a standardisation sooner than later - Emmanuel Hamelin, Baron Hamelin or what>

Order of Sections

I would like the section entitled "Timeline of European discovery and exploration" to be placed between "Europeans arrive" and "British Settlements". Good reading maybe - the choice of people is fairly predictable. At least they put the references in - what a strain that must be seing the 'West' no longer identifies most of its sources for news stories

Title and image in box at right

This item is about the history of Western Australia - but the caption of the image in the box at the RHS is "Depiction of 1851 bushfires in Victoria, Australia"! There must be some photographs of WA that would be a better accompaniment for the text.
