"Citation Needed"

I think it is incorrect to assume that all statements made need citations, for example "and operate as simple media-oriented devices" does not need citation to verify it as true, it is a statement of a common trend that is evident. It is an insult to the author's intelligence to make him cite common knowledge. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gundog95 (talkcontribs) 15:23, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Relation to home computers

I have just removed references to home computer. There is no relation between home servers and home computers other than in name. Rilak (talk) 05:01, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Removing section on "commercial home server products"

The text:

A common type of home server is the

ARM-based devices running Linux
, these have an integrated AC-to-DC power converter and come pre-loaded with various server applications.

Is unencyclopedic, has no external citations to back up its claim, and most of all, has no place as the FIRST heading in the article. It reflects a single person's enamoration with a particular product, not a broad practice. I have moved the reference to plug computers to the sentence about repurposing home computers.

Also moving the section on Operating Systems to after the services section. The primary information should be WHAT a home server does, not WHICH product is used. Especially when the section boils down to, "Well, you can use anything, but I like Linux."

Needs a section for hardware

Needs a section for various kinds of hardware that is used to power all the services. Eg. Intel NUC, Raspberry Pi, Dell/HP Mini Servers etc. --117.223.154.87 (talk) 11:15, 10 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I am currently reworking the article Self-hosting (web services) in my user space here. Those two articles are very close to each other and it would make sense to delineate the focus of each article. GavriilaDmitriev (talk • they/them) 07:19, 26 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
