All the furore over the 'whitest sands' seems to have addled the syntax here. The last 'sand' par. has no verb. The previous 'sand' par. contains two sentences which contradict one another. The tone of the whole article presents as a rant in the columns of the local press by a NIMBY, rather than an encyclopaedic entry. And who was Hyam, BTW?
