Copyrighted picture

I have a great picture from El País [here http://www.elpais.com/fotografia/internacional/ex/rebelde/ex/vicepresidente/Jean/Pierre/Bemba/elpfotint/20070323elpepuint_10/Ies/], but it's copyrighted, so I've not added immediately. --Estrellador* 21:57, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Added report of arrest

Added this from the BBC. Editors more expert might want to better integrate this. T L Miles (talk) 03:27, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vague, removed

Is there any actual information here?: He is considered to be a leader by a segment of the Congolese population Elinruby (talk) 16:14, 8 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

MLC in Équateur NPOV

While his human rights abuse allegations are mentioned in the introduction, this section seems to be glowing praise of his time when he was one side of a war in Equateur.

Incomplete perspective

This article doesn't make adequate mention of the genocide of pygmies that happened under his direct supervision. Benaltair (talk) 05:53, 7 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Article very negative

The shape of the article doesn't seem right. I am not quite sure if it fails to be WP:NPOV, but it certainly goes heavy on the negative. There is much emphasis upon charges he was acquitted of. He spent 10 years in jail for something he eventually was aquitted of; this was surely a very serious miscarraige of justice and needs more emphasis here? Prior to that, he was pivotal in ensuring a more or less fair and free DRC election in 2006. I am not sure I want to spend a great deal of time re-arranging the whole article but it might need it. Any thoughts anyone else? Emmentalist (talk) 15:21, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I've left this for a while since my comment above. With no additional comment from other editors over that time, I'll now spend a bit of time improving this article. In the first instance, I've removed the note of his initial conviction at the ICC from the lead as he was subsequently acquited on all but one minor charge. Please discuss here for consensus before altering. I'll edit more over the next few days. All the best, Emmentalist (talk) 22:38, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Article Improvements

The article could do with improvement in respect of structure and content. It's pretty good in a number of respects and has a lot of detail. But as per the 2019 tag, it needs updating in the light of what is known about the subject's life now along with some events from the last few years. I've made two provisional comments over time (see above) and, having had no comeback, will now make some edits designed to improve the article. I will edit on the basis of WP:BRD rather than trying to get discussion going on each single change. Happy to discuss each edit with other editors here, obv. All the best, Emmentalist (talk) 08:36, 16 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have edited the lead to reflect the long period in prison served by Bemba, along with the ICC rule that there is no limit to the amount of time a person may be held in prision prior to trial and conviction, the court's request that revision be considered by the member states, and the failure so far of the states to do this. This seems unusual and highly noteworthy. I have made a few minor changes to other parts of the article and added up to date material at the lead and at the end of the main section. I have accordingly removed the 'up to date' tag inserted in 2019. I'll stop editing at this point and might return in a little while. In the meantime, I'll maintain a watching brief and am free to engage on any aspect of the article should any other editors find that useful.
