Question - Alma Mater?

Question: if you just 'take classes' at a university, can you claim it as your ALMA MATER? Typically you must complete a degree to legitimately say you are alumni at this level of education. It seems like stealing valor, otherwise. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:642:4A80:35A0:25A5:F9FE:EC13:3B43 (talk) 20:35, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

According to 3 sources I have checked for the definition of 'Alma Mater', Cambridge Dictionary, Oxford Learner's Dictionaries and Dictionary.com, one doesn't have to be a graduate of the education institution, even though usually, to be called an Alma Mater.
