Hi Eastmain, I found "Dod's Parliamentary Companion" mentions him thus (with attempt to correct OCR errors): "Eld. S. [eldest son] of the late John Henry Smyth, esq., of Heath Hall, Yorkshire, by [his 2nd] wife. Lady Elisabeth Anne, 3rd d. of the 4th Duke of Grafton. A grandson of the Right Hon. John Smyth, formerly Master of the ICint[?]. B. in Charlea?t.[?], Berkeley-sq., 1816; m. 1837, Hon. Diana. 5th d. of the 8rd Lord Macdonald. Was educated at Eton, and at Cambridge, where he was a fellow-commoner at Trinity Coll. Is a Magistrate for Yorksh., Col. of the 8nd West York Militia, and a Deputy-Leut. of the West Riding of York. A Conservative formerly in favour of protection, but now "unwilling to reimpose a duty on foreign corn", will vote for a "revision and re-adjustment of taxation", opposed to the continuance of the Maynooth grant.
