Biography

Citation #11 is cited as a source that Stroud has since separated from Sue Jamison. However, during the course of the entire 15-minute interview, she is not mentioned once, nor is Stroud's current romantic relationship status with anyone ever mentioned. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Zigeunerschlampe (talkcontribs) 15:20, 24 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As specified in the reference at the 5:25-5:30 mark of the interview Stroud refers to the fact that he lived with "an ex-wife of mine" in the wilderness for a year and filmed it. Although not explicitly named in his answer, the documentary he is referring to was made with Sue Jamison, his former spouse, clearly indicating he had separated from her before this interview. Further, the other reference 12 confirms his separation from Jamison. --CooperDB (talk) 17:57, 24 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Les Stroud has remarried. I found this out while poking around the internet and happened upon an online wedding registry from 2016 with several pictures of Les and his soon-to-be bride. He also mentioned "his wife" in a recent interview about his new Wild Harvest show. His wife's name is Caroline and they were married on September 10, 2016. Les apparently keeps this very private, which is his and her right.

Why is there is no mention of Stroud's very short lived first marriage (before Jamison), nor his early association with evangelical Christian worship music performance and proclamation of Christian faith? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.54.102.6 (talk) 03:43, 20 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Point me to some references and I would be happy to add this info to the article. --CooperDB (talk) 15:49, 21 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Initial posts

Can't believe this article is so sparse with information...his shows contains pretty valuable info - especially the urban disasters one.

Survivor man will be truly missed here, Thanks for the three seasons of hunger, I learned a lot, and hopefully never to be needed —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rattis irrittis (talkcontribs) 17:29, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Survival gear

From the biography section:

While filming in the wild, Stroud almost always carries and utilizes Leatherman multitools, specifically the "Wave" model.[1]

While interesting, it's just a random tangent, and doesn't flow well with the rest of the biography. Perhaps breaking it out into a section called commonly used or recommended survival gear. But that's really better suited to the wiki for the show, not him. --71.121.14.132 (talk) 21:32, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dont' you think, given the bio if of a survival expert, his tools are an essential part of his career?

He has certain 'quirks' (I always carry my Leatherman, I always carry my harmonica, I prefer not to eat animal-heads, I can't seem to set a falling-rock trap to save my life) which might fit under the Survivorman wiki. Not sure about best location. Sskoog (talk) 04:52, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Possible Vandalism

Wait a sec, Stroud didn't die, he's alive and well. And, there is no season five, he stopped filming after Season 3. That section should be either edited or removed entirely. Plus, if you look at the history page, someone edited the Biography article, so either they didn't know what they were doing, or it's vandalism. --Anonymous07921 (talk) 16:16, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Opening Credits

The article says a citation is needed, but the closing credits for every episode of Survivorman state quite clearly that Les Stroud writes all the music for the show. I couldn't find any URLs that confirm this though, so how does one go about citing an episode of a TV series? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.79.197.169 (talk) 21:21, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Privacy assertation

I just reverted two edits by

WP:PRIVACY which is a policy to protect editors, not the subject of an article. CooperDB (talk) 08:27, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply
]

Certainly WP:PRIVACY addresses concerns about editors, but the policy is written in terms that include the general public. Seems that especially when children are involved, the more important concern is the privacy of the children and spouse. Moreover, we do not see the children on the media discussing the divorce (and its trivial details) going on between their parents. They are
WP:NPF and their names should be omitted from the get-go. Finally, as CooperDB says, these are trivial details and IAW WP:NOTABILITY WP:NTEMP and WP:TRIVIA , they should be omitted. (Simply because a transient event (with trivial details) gets into the media does not make it a bit of gossip worthy of WP.)--S. Rich (talk) 14:22, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply
]
As per
WP:BLPNAME the names of family members may be included in articles if necessary for discussion of the subject. I do agree that the children's names, despite having been provided freely to the media by the subject, are probably not necessary for the discussion of the subject and have therefore removed them. However, Stroud's ex-spouse was an integral part of his early career and therefore does need to be identified. Removal of her name from the whole article would require a significant and unnecessary rewriting of the article and just ignoring the fact they are separated despite that fact being reported in the media and in interviews by Stroud is disingenuous and not required by any WP policy. Thanks.--S. Rich (talk) 15:03, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No problem! And thanks for your contributions to the article. --CooperDB (talk) 15:51, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The concern regarding the use of the children's names in this article has re-arisen. An IP/

WP:SPA editor persists in adding the names despite requests and warnings not to. Presently the article has approval protection (thank you, OlEnglish), but I ask concerned and responsible editors to continue with the consensus that CooperDB and I reached last year. To restate, the addition of the children's names in the article in light of the pending divorce/separation of Stroud is unneeded/unencyclopedic and violates the privacy of the children.--S. Rich (talk) 00:09, 23 February 2011 (UTC)[reply
]

While the IP is clearly adding very wrong names for Stroud's children and I do agree that the children's names should most certainly not be included in the article, per
WP:PRIVACY, I do also feel that the fact that he has children should obviously be stated in the article. It should just stated that he has two children without naming any names. SilverserenC 03:22, 24 February 2011 (UTC)[reply

The vandal edits were to the infobox. I'll restore the "Children -- 2" notation. (tomorrow)--S. Rich (talk) 07:02, 24 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Music

The Music Section is a bit outdated as shown on Les Stroud's Website. This Music section only goes as far as his work with The Pikes in 2007.

On Les Stroud's Website, it states that Les has written all the theme songs for his TV series and scored several independent films[1].

In 2013, he performed at the prestigious Green Ball in Washington, DC where he met Vice President Joe Biden and was the MC for the inaugural Oceana Ball in New York with Susan Rockefeller[2].

Les's Third CD, Wonderful Things released in 2011,[3], and his Fourth CD, Off the Grid, both included feature documentary films entitled The Barn Sessions [4].

Barn Sessions III--Off the Grid came out in 2015 [5].

Les's next CD that he is currently working on is titled Mother Earth. Mother Earth is an art rock genre album and is being produced by none other than rock legend Mike Clink and includes a solo from Slash of Guns N’ Roses fame on the lead single “One Giant Farm” [6].

‘Survivorman - Les Stroud’ YouTube Channel

On November 28th 2020, Stroud uploaded a 47:17 minute pilot for a new show called ‘Fighting to Survive’ that he notes in the description is a spin on ‘Survivorman’ and something he would like to turn into a series. Stroud exclaims his disliking for the current state of television networks.

Just gave a brief explanation of his words in the description of the video, I think this info is worthy of the main page as it shows Les is not done filmmaking. Dapro96 (talk) 18:21, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Les Stroud Birth Name

Les Stroud has shown multiple times that his actual name is Leslie. As per Wikipedia's guidelines on nicknames, pen names, stage names, and cognomens, the person's real name should be used in the article. Proof of this being his real name can be found in this youtube video.. I therefore request that the opening sentence be changed from "Les Stroud (born October 20, 1961)[1][2][3] is a Canadian survival expert, filmmaker and musician best known as the creator, writer, producer, director, cameraman and host of the television series Survivorman." be changed to: "Leslie Stroud (born October 20, 1961)[1][2][3], known professionally as Les Stroud, is a Canadian survival expert, filmmaker and musician best known as the creator, writer, producer, director, cameraman and host of the television series Survivorman."

If he had released a video stating unequivocally that his real name is "Leslie Stroud" then we could probably get away with it under

Thanks for taking the time to reply! Besides multiple references to himself as "Leslie" in his TV series, what you're asking for unfortunately doesn't exist. I would personally give great weight to official government documents, however I respect the standards required.
Thanks for being so understanding.
