The article's beginning does not make the distinction of Lindsay as a surname and as a first name, but popular name for girls is only as a first name. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.235.59.24 (talk) 15:36, 21 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The etymology "linden tree by the sea" is blooming nonsense, even if it was printed in an ISBNed book. The etymology "island of linden trees" is a possibility[1], but the explanation "marshes of

Which is main standard spelling and which is the variant?

So, if I read the Article correctly, Lindsay is the standard name and Lindsey is the variant. Is that right? I've been confused on this one for a while. Also, the etymological "sources" already referred to should be listed. The Mysterious El Willstro (talk) 06:32, 25 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Do you mean the given name? Apparently, the Earl of Lindsey is English, while the Earl of Lindsay is Scottish. I am not sure how the surname arose. Use as a given name appears not to originate in Britain but either in the USA or in Australia / New Zealand. Use as a female given name is clearly a US phenomenon. The "original Lindsay" is Bionic Woman

Subdivision of surnames

The organization of surnames by nationalities is not helpful. A person looking to identify a person does not usually know about the person before looking him up. I came to this page trying to find out who was the writer T. M. Lindsay. There was no reason to guess beforehand that he was Scottish when all I had was the initials. Lindsay Wagner

It seems that in the introduction, there has been for some time this unreferenced claim about the name's popularity for girls being due to Lindsay Wagner's role in a 1976 film. A straw poll of people sitting near me suggests this isn't true (people being able to think of female Lindseys they knew before 1976), although it may of course be true in the USA.

Perhaps the claim should be either referenced, clarified or dropped? 79.77.54.149 (talk) 10:41, 6 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Taking it out now. Malinaccier (talk) 19:08, 6 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Non-notable fictional characters

Non-notable fictional characters who do not have articles or sections of an article of a list of the characters, or are the eponymous characters of the show, should NOT be listed here. It is unmanageable listcruft to have every incidental walk-on role listed here, or any such collection of names. Please make your case here before editing again. I disagree with some of your edits here. For example, *Lindsay in Lucky Number Slevin played by Lucy Liu: on reading the article about the film, Lindsay is a leading character in the plot. Yes, she doesn't have an article to herself or a section of an article, but she is still a leading character. Are there other characters in the list who are also leading characters but don't meet your criteria for inclusion (BTW, are these criteria yours specifically or are they WP policy on who can be included in a list like this?). In addition, *
Arrested Development, played by Portia de Rossi should be listed as the character appears in the article List of Arrested Development characters and is a major character. MurielMary (talk) 10:47, 30 December 2017 (UTC)[reply

And *
Lindsay Dole, an attorney on The Practice, played by Kelli Williams - Lindsay Dole is listed in the main cast of the show's article. MurielMary (talk) 10:50, 30 December 2017 (UTC)[reply

Is Lindsay a "Christian name?"
