Unit of measure

Gases have different energetic values, the range is so wide that a cubic meter from one source could have double the energetic value of another, this makes m3 less informative (at least to me) on the energy consumption in form of natural gas of countries. Common practice (apart from using cubic meters) is to use Joule or kWh as unit of measure. This also applies to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_natural_gas_proven_reserves. perhaps it would improve the list if the consumption was to be measured in thousands of m3

It doesn't make much sense to have "World" listed as #1 in the ranking by sovereign state. I'd remove it from the ranking and change each following rank, but perhaps someone has a way of doing it automatically? This page is in need of an update, as do most of the other rank lists. The CIA World Factbook now has 05 and later estimates for most countries.69.242.125.187 (talk) 23:26, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Is this per year?? Should state it somewhere. might also throw in a column for mCF for the Americans:-) Msjayhawk (talk) 01:54, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

when updating this list, it´d be nice to use same basic measurement as in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_natural_gas_proven_reserves -- therefore itd be much easier comparing reserves vs current consumption and expected timeframe until depletion. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.220.92.14 (talk) 07:27, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rate of consumption

This article must indicate a period of time to be associated with these figures. Is it per year, day, or hour? At present this is entirely unclear, rendering the information useless.Jason McConnell-Leech (talk) 04:29, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I note the BP STATISTICAL REVIEW OF WORLD ENERGY JUNE 2008, available at here, shows the world consumption for 2007 to be 2,921.9 Billion cubic metres. The table on this wiki page shows world natural gas consumption as 3,025 billion cubic metres for 2005 so I would assume the table shows the annual consumption. I see the source for the table, the CIA World Factbook, also quotes figures for consumption without a time basis, tsk, tsk! —Preceding unsigned comment added by DavidSturt (talkcontribs) 22:48, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
