When was the Alba wrecked?

A brief search of the web throws up some confusion as to exactly when the Alba foundered. For example, 'Tate Online' (http://www.tate.org.uk/servlet/ViewWork?workid=21044&tabview=text) seems uncertain as to whether it was 1938 or 1939. There is even a typo (presumably it's a typo) referring to 1928. I'm going to suggest that they correct that.

However, 'When The Boat Goes Out' (http://www.spooky1.com/maritime/alba.htm) says it was 1938. This page includes a photograph of the memorial stone in Barnoon Cemetery that unequivocally shows the date of the wreck as 31st January 1938.

So, this entry belongs on a page entitled 'List of shipwrecks in 1938'. But there isn't one, and I don't feel up to starting one.

I've now created the list. Mjroots (talk) 06:09, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Danish schooner Grethe

Shipwrecks of Kent mentions the loss of a Danish schooner named Grethe which foundered on the Goodwin Sands. Unfortunately no date is given but probably c1939/40. Can anyone pin this one down? Mjroots (talk) 06:26, 24 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Expansion, May 2010

I've expanded the list significantly. In some cases, the ship's country is not supported by the Mareud ref. These have been checked by reference to Lloyd's Registers via the Plimsoll Ship Data website. In most cases, redlinks have been created. The info presented coupled with the Mareud ref should be enough to search for further sources should anyone wish to create an article on any individual ship. Possible twin entry or mistake

There is one "Wilpa" sunk by the Soviet submarine on 12 December, and a "Wilpas" sunk by the same submarine on 28 December - coincidence or mistake? --MoRsE (talk) 09:15, 11 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
