"The iconic Maid of the Mist boat ride provides an exhilarating, up-close experience of Niagara Falls. The diesel-powered boat carries passengers directly into the churning rapids and dense mist of Niagara Falls. Boarding the boat in calm waters, passengers soon find themselves facing the raw power of the Falls from directly beneath them – an area accessible only from the Maid of the Mist. Drenched with spray, rain-gear clad riders are rewarded with breathtaking views of the American and Canadian Horseshoe Falls."

I was just reading this article, and noticed the same thing. A new user recently made a handful of edits that turned this article into an ad for the boat ride. Based on the username of the editor, some basic Googling, and the fact that the only edits made by the user are for the Maid of the Mist article, it certainly looks like a conflict of interest here. Dubious

I did not wear the blue poncho when I took the Maid of the Mist tour in July 2001, although I did get a bit wet. --Seven of Nine (talk) 03:16, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It may be best to say all passengers are issued the poncho, but may wear it at their discretion. Radagast (talk) 20:15, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I would agree with Radagast. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.154.65.108 (talk) 02:18, 18 March 2008 (UTC) I believe the horsepower of boats 4 and 5 are 350 per engine, and 6 and 7 are 500 per engine. When I worked there (1996) the maximum load of boat 6 was 586.--Muttola (talk) 02:17, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Legend of the Maid of the Mist

I am writing this from Niagara Falls, ON. We just saw the IMAX film, in which they talk about the Native American legend which forms the basis for the name. In the film, the Maid of the Mist ships up until the rescue of Woodward in the 1960's are shown as being called Lelawala. Can someone confirm this, and perhaps talk about the legend itself? Thanks. HD Video

I can provide short HD video clips of the Maid of the Mist that I took when wikipedia begins using video, if anyone thinks that would be appropriate. Jafafa Hots (talk) 02:11, 28 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hornblower Niagara Cruises takeover of Canadian operations

It may be relevant to mention in this article that the "Maid of the Mist" currently operates only on the USA side of Niagara Falls — no longer in Canada and that the contract to operate on the Canadian side has been given to Hornblower Niagara Cruises (as of 2014 season). There may be some confusion when reading this article as-is.

I agree with you completely. 209.90.140.72 (talk) 22:09, 29 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Would love to know what happened to all the Canadian content of this article. Just because the company ceased to operate in Canada in recent years does not mean the history should have been entirely removed. Compuryan (talk) 14:48, 8 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

History

The article discusses "access to the river-level attraction on the Canadian side..." The attraction on the Canadian side is named "Hornblower Niagara Cruises" -- but according to their own website has only been in operation since 2014. Did MotM formerly operate on both sides?
