I will make some some copy-edits, but sheesh, it is like a bad high school essay in parts:

There is some criticism toward the novel concerning the seemingly lack of direction and endless description.

Controversy about the small-town portrayal of vicious back-stabbers and hypocrites was also probably a factor in the novel's popularity; in 1920, it was a heralded thought to live in an area like Gopher Prairie--a notion hilariously denounced with Main Street's powerful inculcation.

Also, the words "smug conservatism" were amusing, particularly in light of the more modern problem of smug liberals. I totally agree - Main Street is one of the great works of American fiction, very significant novel. Kind of a shame this entry is so thin and doesn't touch on the impact the novel had on American society and culture. Maybe I'll try to add to it. (I do agree he needed a stern editor, there are portions that are really dry, but it is a great book). TotoroRules (talk) 23:49, 11 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
