I have found some reliable sources to assert that Megan Thee Stallion's Instagram page qualifies as an exception according to the guidelines in

WP:ELMIN, as @Magnolia677
: has requested:

These sources establish that her freestyles on Instagram contributed to her rise in prominence as an artist:

These sources state that she has created hashtags and grown her fanbase through Instagram:

These sources state that she has reached over a million Instagram followers:

Together, I think these sources establish that her Instagram has content that adds unique value, and further, this social media link is not prominent on her official website. Citrivescence (talk) 02:28, 9 May 2019 (UTC)

I respectfully disagree, the social media did help in her rise in prominence and grown her fanbase etc., but it is not a primary claim to her notability in the first place. What you show is nothing abnormal, many/most artists/companies/organisations/etc. are active on social media (I communicate with a gas/electricity company through facebook/messenger, and they actively advertise that). There is a big difference between use of social media, and being known because of social media. And having a million followers does not seem to be that extraordinary (as far as such numbers are reliable in the first place). --Dirk Beetstra T C 06:08, 9 May 2019 (UTC)
Wikipedia is not a directory or promotional tool. Megan Thee Stallion's popularity on Instagram is already noted in the article's text: "She has garnered fans by posting her freestyles on her Instagram since college. She refers to her fans as "hotties", and credits her hyperactive fan base for her early success." As well, her official website--listed in the external links section--provides links to all her social media accounts. Magnolia677 (talk) 10:02, 9 May 2019 (UTC)
Thank you for your comments. First, can you link to the page on her official website where you see her Instagram being linked? And second, can you tell me how these citations I've found, specifically, do not meet the guidelines outlined in WP:ELMIN? I am aware that Wikipedia is not a promotional tool and see the Instagram link as meeting the "unique content" proviso in ELMIN. Citrivescence (talk) 14:04, 9 May 2019 (UTC)

Citrivescence, I wonder whether it might be appropriate to expand this article to describe her use of Instagram. What do you think?
As for the ==External links== section, I could go either way. It might be a bit of a stretch to claim two links (see the more usual reasons

Cornerstonepicker: I disagree that the record label is barely known as it is notable enough to have its own Wikipedia page. It is notable that she is the first woman to be signed to the label because it was mentioned in multiple RS that I found when I created the page. Megan Thee StallionMegan thee Stallion – Per WP:MOS/Music, the definite article "thee" need not be capitalized here. Megan thee Stallion herself and her record label do typically use the uppercase, but the current name of the article on Tyler, the Creator suggests that the artist's personal stylization of such articles is irrelevant; see the Talk page on that article. The existing, older article names on Disturbing tha Peace and Alex da Kid suggest that the rule would still apply for intentionally misspelled articles such as "tha" and "da," so I see no exception for "thee." Mhavril39 (talk) 17:06, 14 August 2020 (UTC)

  • Oppose Overwhelmingly clear common name per sources (not to mention it seems a stretch to argue that we should take an intentional misspelling of a word and try to apply uncommonly used styling to it in contrast to both primary send secondary sources). It's the sort of silly overthinking that makes Wikipedia lose credibility by running counter to the reliable sources it relies upon -- the sort of thing that for years had us put an article like RZA at title no one uses. And as our manual of style makes clear, we should defer to usage as used in a clear overwhelming majority of reliable sources.--Yaksar (let's chat) 20:14, 14 August 2020 (UTC)

1.) When her name is entered in google, it says "American songwriter" instead of "American rapper" so I need this corrected 2.) She frequently sings and has stated she would love to release an R & B mixtape sometime in the future, so its only fitting that "singer" should be added to her bio. 3.) Her musical influences are pimp c, three 6 mafia, biggie smallz, beyonce, lil kim and her mother, Holly so this needs to be adjusted on her page. Chybub (talk) 19:42, 21 June 2021 (UTC)

Not done Her description here is "American rapper from Texas" so I am not sure where Google is pulling that information from. Multiple reliable sources would have to refer to her as a singer and we would need to confirm that she is as notable for singing as she is for her other occupations. The majority of the artists listed are present and sourced in the "artistry" section already, sources would have to be provided before any additions are made. Artistry & influences

Should the artistry & influences section say "Megan Thee Stallion has named Pimp C, The Notorious B.I.G, Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Three 6 Mafia, Pimp C, and Lil' Kim as some of her biggest influences"? The rest of the paragraph implies that Stallion is both influenced by Beyonce and Minaj, with multiple reliable sources to back it up. Here's a GQ video with Stallion saying that she has been influenced by Beyonce, and a Teen Vogue video with Stallion saying straight from her mouth that she has been inspired by Minaj. Both of these reliable sources are statements from Stallion that she has been influenced by both these female artists. Pinging multiple editors I see on this talk page: @

I don’t see anything wrong with the current revision (this). The only change I’d make is move the sentence about Minaj to after the one about her other inspirations so all the inspirations are in the same part of the paragraph. Otherwise the information is there already. It’s got a professional encyclopedic tone and is properly sourced. I don’t see the need to further change it. CAMERAwMUSTACHE (talk) 14:17, 6 September 2021 (UTC)
@CAMERAwMUSTACHE: The issue is for some reason it doesn't state outright that Megan has been inspired by Beyonce despite the rest of the paragraph implying that she has been inspired by Beyonce. The current revision already says "Stallion was influenced by Pimp C", then says that she admires his talk-rap delivery. In a similar tone, the change I'm proposing to make is to say that Stallion was inspired by Beyonce and Nicki, because the next few sentences are words straight from Stallion's mouth saying she's been influenced by Beyonce and Nicki. The sources and tone is good, I'm not proposing to modify that.
The artistry section dodges specifically saying "Stallion has been influenced by Beyonce and Nicki", despite the next few sentences implying otherwise. Those sentences are fine; just say that she was inspired by both of them, since this seems obvious from the sources.

I think I'm getting a little confused. You seem to want more to be said about Beyonce as an influence? Or the opposite? Beyonce is listed in that sentence so it's unclear to me what else should be said about that. What exactly are you proposing to add? -Citrivescence (talk) 01:01, 7 September 2021 (UTC)
@Citrivescence: Here is my proposed change to the "artistry and influence" paragraph, that properly mentions that she has been influenced by both Beyonce and Minaj.
Megan Thee Stallion cites her mother as her first and biggest influence. She cites
Best Rap Song
acceptance speech with Beyoncé, she said: "Ever since I was little, I was like, 'you know what? One day, I'm gonna grow up and I'm gonna be like the rap Beyoncé.' That was definitely my goal. [...] I love her work ethic, I love the way she is, I love the way she carries herself.'" On Nicki Minaj, Megan Thee Stallion said: "Nicki, she was here before us, so this is who we had to look at, at this time. So, definitely [she] has been an inspiration to me."
The point is that Beyonce and Minaj are mentioned in the "She cites x, y, z as her biggest influences" sentence because of the multiple sources backing it up. Just say it clearly, plain and simple.

"Tory Lanez" subheading

Hello! Given the fact that the "Tory Lanez" subheading goes on to describe a singular incident and subsequent consequences, wouldn't it be more appropriate to put a specific heading to acknowledge the severity of the situation, for instance, "Tory Lanez shooting incident" or even "allegations", although given the ongoing trial process, it's an interesting choices of words, in my opinion. If anyone has any alternatives, feel free to list them here.--Bettydaisies (talk) 22:56, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

I don't believe it should have "Tory Lanez" in it at all. Getting shot is traumatizing and if Megan was to read that the only heading under her personal life was "Tory Lanez", the man who assaulted her, I think she would be upset at the very least. I would like to propose changing the heading to "Shooting Incident" or "Assault". Sorry if this is the improper convention for suggesting a change. user: sarahna3m — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1700:2800:8170:C90C:FF61:5A20:2F0E (talk) 18:23, 11 December 2020 (UTC)

"thee" Vs "the"

The article incorrectly states:

'She adopted the stage name "Megan Thee Stallion" because she was called a "stallion" in adolescence due to her height (5′10″ or 178 cm) and "thick" body frame'

However, this does not fully explain why 'the' is miss-spelled' as 'thee'. Thus the reason given is only partial. It would be more accurate to reword the statement as:

'She adopted the stage name "Megan Thee Stallion" partly because she was called a "stallion" in adolescence due to her height (5′10″ or 178 cm) and "thick" body frame'.

An explanation of the mis-spelling is still warranted. E.g. Is it a result of poor education? Is it a mistake that was made when the name was first used and which has been adopted since? Is it a deliberate miss-spelling as an attempt to attract publicity? Etc. 81.131.103.252 (talk) 06:40, 25 March 2022 (UTC)

Troy Lanez name uniformity

The personal life section identifies Lanez as Daystar Peterson, but goes back and forth with which name he is identified by in the text which follows.
