We should have an article on every pyramid and every nome in Ancient Egypt. I'm sure the rest of us can think of other articles we should have.

Cleanup.

To start with, most of the general history articles badly need attention. And I'm told that at least some of the dynasty articles need work. Any other candidates?

Standardize the Chronology.

A boring task, but the benefit of doing it is that you can set the dates !(e.g., why say Khufu lived 2589-2566? As long as you keep the length of his reign correct, or cite a respected source, you can date it 2590-2567 or 2585-2563)

Stub sorting

Anyone? I consider this probably the most unimportant of tasks on Wikipedia, but if you believe it needs to be done . . .

Data sorting.

This is a project I'd like to take on some day, & could be applied to more of Wikipedia than just Ancient Egypt. Take one of the standard authorities of history or culture -- Herotodus, the Elder Pliny, the writings of Breasted or Kenneth Kitchen, & see if you can't smoothly merge quotations or information into relevant articles. Probably a good exercise for someone who owns one of those impressive texts, yet can't get access to a research library.

On 13 February 2022, it was proposed that this article be moved from Mortuary Temple of Ramesses III to Medinet Habu. The result of the discussion was moved.

Medinet Habu (location). This one has bothered me for some time; I have spent many years trying to verify the two-article split we have had since these articles were created almost-simultaneously by two different editors in 2005. We still have no sources justifying the split. Having just visited the place I can confirm that there really is only one place known as Medinet Habu. I think the confusion stems from the fact that there was once a village on the grounds of the temple,[1] presumably the same one in which the Coptic church once stood, but this has not existed for a long time. Support. There are several noteworthy monuments at the site, and the temple of Ramesses III is by far the most significant. But right now Wikipedia doesn't say a whole lot about the temple, so merging the temple article with the general article about the site is entirely practical.

If, at some point in the future, the content about the temple does expand enough that a split is justified, the article on the temple should be titled "Mortuary Temple of Ramesses III", not "Medinet Habu (temple)". Note that at

Thanks A. Parrot. I agree with you. Also pinging Mr rnddude who has been working very hard on the Hatshepsut temple article. I visited that yesterday as well. Given how significant the Hatshepsut temple has become post its restoration, the term Deir el-Bahari is rarely used in guidebooks and similar literature any more. But when it is, it is always talks about the three temples, as you suggest. That is different for "Medinet Habu", as even scholarly sources differ as to whether the other two temples are part of it or adjacent to it… As an unrelated aside, my lasting feeling from Hatshepsut’s temple is that it has been almost completely rebuilt (new ceilings, walls, pillars etc) – I think that is the many decades' work of the Polish mission, who are still there now. If so, our article currently underplays the enormous transformation resulting from their work. Onceinawhile (talk) 20:59, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Support - as practical. I suspect that a split could be justified if someone was willing to spend the time to write a comprehensive article on Ramesses III's mortuary temple (under a more appropriate title, as mentioned by A. Parrot), but currently and into the foreseeable future the disambiguation page links to two start-up articles with basically overlapping coverage. Do prune the gallery though when merging as it is rather excessive at 28 (32 in-article total) for less than 500 words of prose. Thanks for the ping.
