Herr Baron Manfred Richthofen

It was neither Australian machine gunner nor Captain Brown that shot down the Baron. Note photographs of the plane in Royal Army records. Note also all eye witness accounts. The bullets from Brown's guns were striking earth. He made a common error of pilots in combat of not leading his target extremely while diving prior to firing. It was not the first Australian there are no holes in the front of the aircraft. Neither was it Hopkins his bullets strike the aircraft near the low edge of the fuselage and none at the cockpit. It was some Australian private firing his .303 bolt action rifle at closer range because of the angle of the strike entering the Baron just over three inches below his arm pit and not hitting his arm.
