I'm really happy to hear about this, I visited northern ireland this summer, and I was actually there when the IRA ordered the guns to be put away. I hope they can come to a peaceful resolution that works for both sides soon.

Section could do with an update. UUP secured David Ervines vote linking them to paramilitaries, IMC report now at the 10th, william stobie released after 2 years of a 22 year sentence. Also in need of an update is the McCartney stuff which seems inaccurate in the light of events. No mention of the allegations against Gerry Adams & Martin McGuinness either. It's been on my to do list as well since early this millennium, I'm afraid.

One minor point - I understand the stated reason advanced by Unionists for regarding loyalist weapons as less of an issue than republican ones is NOT that Loyalist-paramilitary-linked parties have less representation than Republican ones in the Assembly (which is silly), but that they have NO representation in the Executive; thus they are not "part of the government". Search wiki for "Irish Bar Brawl", this page comes up as the #5 result... LMAO!

I've started trying to clean up some of the language in the article. Removed the quotation marks around 'peace process', as these implied a bias of the original author, rewrote the introduction, removed the line linking Sinn Féin to the PIRA, as this seemed to be unnessacary as it belongs on a page about the party specifically. Most of the information on the page isn't referenced, so it'd be helpful if someone could find reliable sources. Thanks --Recipe For Hate (talk) 00:58, 10 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This article of very biased in that it only describes the "truth" from one side of the argument. There is no mention of Loyalist Paramilitary organizations such as The Red Hand Commando's, Ulster Volunteer Force, Ulster Defense Association, or front groups like The Apprentice Boys.

These groups, and many many other splinter groups, have been represented in political parties such as the PUP, and most obviously in the Ulster Unionist Party.

There was no discussion of the murders of significant individuals such as the human rights lawyer Patrick Finucane, nor not one single mention amazingly of the vast collusion between the former RUC and loyalist paramilitary operations.

This is like reading commentary on a boxing match with only one fighter!

How can you talk about William Stobie if you don't talk about Finucane in detail?

I also see tons of references to Gerry Adams but very little to Ian Paisley?

The opening paragraph states it aims to "...cover the events leading up to the 1994" and yet the opening in the body "Timeline" begins only: "In 1994, the talks between...". This is a very odd opening line and I wnder if there has been some "vandalism" here.

The article refers in fact exclusively to the 90's ignoring, for instance, the Women's Peace Movement [1] which began in 1976 and even Margaret Thatcher's and Garrett Fitzgerald's work in the mid 80's and the Anglo-Irish Agreement [2].

The article really and urgently needs a complete overhaul and rewrite in view of the importance of its subject matter.

Sorry to be blunt, but the article as it now stands is a complete mess. I am working on an FAC and I have linked to this page only to discover this nightmare. It really needs to be cleaned up. An article dealing with an issue as important as the peace process cannot be left to wallow in this sorry state. There is virtually nothing about the Irish Government's intermidiary Chris Hudson meeting senior UVF Brigade Staff members such as David Ervine and the mysterious "Craftsman" in the Shankill Road.
