There is now a report that Google is accepting pay-for-search preferences by BP to bring BP's sites to the top of the search list when looking for information on oil spills etc. BP has apparently confirmed this activity to bias the search engine in its favour. This would seem to contradict the content of this wiki entry.

Updated Article to 2013

This article used to be *very* outdated. I updated its content to be more relevant to the state of search today. I removed un-cited sources that I couldn't find online and tried to make the paid inclusion controversy as unbiased as possible.
