The photo in the Description Section is probably misidentified. This photo is more likely an image of the congener Perna canaliculus, or green-lipped mussel. Most Perna viridis specimens are completely or mostly green in the external periostracum rather than just the shell margin, and the shell interior is more iridescent than the shells of P. canaliculus.
