- Since this article is about a non-edible oil, and after consulting with the WikiProject Food and drink, I am removing the Food and Drink tag from here. -Killian441 (talk) 20:44, 22 November 2013 (UTC)
Article name change
I am proposing changing the name of this article to Pongamia oil. I recently updated the article and as I stated in the opening paragraph there are many different names for the
A couple of quick searches:
Search Term | Google Results | SpringerLink Results | PubMed Results |
---|---|---|---|
"pongamia oil" | 64,200 | 26 | 18 |
"honge oil" | 9,810 | 4 | 0 |
"karanja oil" | 260,000 | 31 | 6 |
"pungai oil" | 264 | 0 | 0 |
I'm not an expert in this subject, but while looking for references it definitely seems like Pongamia oil, or Karanja oil, is a better title for this article. Killian441 (talk) 23:20, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
- I don't have an opinion on the name change, but agree that the other 2 major names seem to be perfectly good names. I created redirects from them.Shajure (talk) 00:42, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
A couple months have passed and I am updating the table I previously put together. I'm removing "pungai oil" as there were very few results, and including "millettia oil" based on the new name of Pongamia.
Search Term | Google Results | SpringerLink Results | PubMed Results | Academic OneFile |
---|---|---|---|---|
"pongamia oil" | 147,000 | 27 | 19 | 12 |
"honge oil" | 495,000 | 5 | 0 | 4 |
"karanja oil" | 43,000 | 33 | 6 | 17 |
"millettia oil" | 150,000 | 0 | 4 | 0 |
It seems like "millettia oil" isn't very popular yet, but I will make a redirect page for it just in case. Looking at the traffic statistics from http://stats.grok.se Karanja oil was accessed 113 times in the last 90 days, while Pongamia oil was only accessed 42 times in the last 90 days. I think these accesses are slightly skewed, as Karanja oil is linked to from Karanja while Pongamia oil has no links at all. While I prefer changing the name to Pongamia oil (or even Millettia oil), there still doesn't seem to be a consensus. Killian441 (talk) 17:47, 30 March 2012 (UTC)
Doing another round of this:
Search Term | Google Results | SpringerLink Results | PubMed Results | Academic OneFile | JSTOR |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
"pongamia oil" | 16,800 | 44 | 25 | 19 | 5 |
"honge oil" | 4,200 | 7 | 0 | 6 | 0 |
"karanja oil" | 61,200 | 47 | 6 | 24 | 2 |
"millettia oil" | 7,300 | 0 | 8 | 2 | 0 |
I'm going to change the name to Pongamia oil. The google results fluctuate a lot, and although Karanja has more springerlink and onefile results, I think Pongamia is more closely associated with the tree it comes from. If there are objections we can continue this topic. -Killian441 (talk) 22:50, 2 October 2013 (UTC)
