Article name

I gave some considerable thought to the title for the article. Quite a lot of members of Category:German tourist routes have names in English (but by no means all of them), but I wrote this article because I could find no reference to the Straße der Megalithkultur after I saw that name on several brown signs around Cloppenburg and Oldenburg. I thought people were likely to be searching for the actual name, not any one of half a dozen possible translations of it. --Robert EA Harvey (talk) 10:39, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Editor Bermicourt (talk) has re-titled this as Route of Megalithic Culture based on EU nomencalture and several English-language web sites, and has provided a re-direct page for Straße der Megalithkultur which is probably an adequate solution to my search term rears.--Robert EA Harvey (talk) 10:31, 27 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Translation

I have started work on incorporating material from the German version, but have commented out the chunk I imported that still needs work. Feel free to do some editing of it!--Robert EA Harvey

Interwiki

Although the interwiki and Wikidate correctly display the German article as Straße der Megalithkultur, in practice it's linking, bizarrely, to Ausstellungszentrum für die Archäologie des Emslandes. Does anyone know how to correct or report that? --Bermicourt (talk) 08:13, 28 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Names of sites

May I suggest the following naming scheme for the individual sites (noting that none yet have articles, but probably will in due course):

  • Use the English name used in authoritative sources (but in most cases there probably isn't one)
  • Use the German name where it's a nickname or popular name e.g. Glaner Braut
  • Where the name comprises a proper noun and a common noun or nouns, we translate the latter, e.g. Großsteingrab Steenberg becomes "Steenberg megalithic tomb" or "Steenberg dolmen"

Having translated several articles on this subject area, I have begun a specialist German-English glossary of some of these words which I am happy to share! Bermicourt (talk) 08:40, 28 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
