Was there no Cup in 2006?--

No. England & France played in the Federation Shield and the other nations took part in the RLWC qualifying process.[1] Might be worth mentioning this in the article? Mattlore 01:45, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well it depends. Are there going to be anymore? If so we'll just put an asterisk in 2006 with a note explaining the absence of the competition. If not, we should mention it in a description of the Cup's demise.--

I'd expect that it will be back, its just making way for qualifying tournaments, but then I have nothing to back that up. Regards Mattlore 04:31, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 02 August 2014

The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: no consensus. No prejudice against a new RM once the 2014 comp has started and we have new sources. Jenks24 (talk) 12:31, 11 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Rugby League European Cup → European Cup (rugby league) – Common name of the tournament is European Cup. Season articles name: 2012 European Cup (rugby league). Also it's need to rename Category:European Nations Cup (old name of the tournament) to Category:European Cup (rugby league). NickSt (talk) 09:43, 2 August 2014 (UTC)[reply

  • Support Bracketed disambiguator is more appropriate.--Gibson Flying V (talk) 21:32, 4 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Natural disambiguation is preferred to parenthetical disambiguation, and the current naturally disambiguated title is well recognised, used, and is front and centre on the emblem. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 11:53, 11 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

So it does. Perhaps European Championship (rugby league)?--Gibson Flying V (talk) 00:49, 9 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Although one of the above uses 'European Cup' in the URL. European Cup is also used by the
Alitalia European Cup (link). Not a clear cut case, this one.--Gibson Flying V (talk) 00:57, 9 August 2014 (UTC)[reply

European Championship: heraldscotland.com, dailymail.co.uk, newsandstar.co.uk --Gibson Flying V (talk) 01:04, 9 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
A bit of a mess, isn't it! Thanks for digging all of that up. What I can't find is any explanation from a news or official source about any name change, so who knows what happened. My own inclination would be to go with "European Championships" - that seems to be what the RLEF, as the organiser calls it, and it seems to have been picked up in most of the reliable sources. Perhaps the BBC (which doesn't seem to have any content) and RLF pages are just out of date. --

I'm tempted to wait and see how sources refer to 2014's staging of the competition (any logo produced for it would be quite telling) before we decide on re-naming this, the main article.--Gibson Flying V (talk) 03:51, 10 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I agree. --

Frequency

How often is the new format Euros? When 2023 first announced is was suggested that it would be every four years like football however various outlets are saying every three (which presents a problem for 2029 as it is a world cup year). I've seen nothing from ERL to suggest it is every three but then again they never confirmed it was every four, only hinted at it. Mn1548 (talk) 16:00, 3 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
