Caption question

Two of the images refer to the "left" and "right" of Sanya. There is nothing in the article that indicates what "left and right" are supposed to mean in this context. Left from some point on land, right from some point on land? Left when approaching from the sea, right when approaching from the sea? East, west? West, east? Tomertalk 03:39, 20 June 2007 (UTC) What is unbelieveable is that there isnt such a kinda material available so far about Sanya and the diversified attractions such as the local culture, the dialect and the folklores about the Li minority and so forth. That's a gap,a blank which is indeed a must show or something U gotta realize.... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.100.209.123 (talk) 19:41, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lead

I think putting "southernmost city" in the lead is fine - after all it is - and doing so provides a good hook to keep people reading. Not sure what "rough topography" means. All three areas of the city are pretty much flat.

All right. Will try to edit the first sentence accordingly. The link to South Central China is probably not necessary here.
Whoops. Meant to discuss the prefecture, or the area under the city's administration. And a new issue would be that I am not sure whether the comparison to Hawaii Island is absolutely necessary...there is a slight pandering to Americans that do not know about Hainan, much less this city. Which is to say, the vast majority of Americans. --HXL's

The Hawaii simile is as old as the hills and a fixation of the powers that be when promoting Sanya. The city also happens to be on the same latitude as lots of other places but I suppose Hawaii conjures up images of sand, sea and sunshine. FYI the prefecture information does not match up with what it says in the Chinese WP article - maybe needs checking against the official website.

Most government websites provide backgrounds (including Geographic) anyway. Hopefully I should be able to find it. --HXL's

Expansion needed

This article gets almost twice the visits of the Haikou article but is relatively undeveloped. Please, if you like, in point form, identify a few sections/subsections below that the article should have, or need fixing or expanding. I will sign beside the ones I can work on. Phoenix Island - Photo request

Located in Sanya Bay and under construction. Anyone have a snapshot? Many thanks. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 11:40, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
