Article title

I recommend changing the name of this article to either Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden or Saxon State Orchestra Dresden. If the word "Staatskapelle" isn't going to be translated for the article title, then the full name (Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden) should be used. And Dresden Staatskapelle is completely wrong. I'd offer to translate more from the German page as well, but I'm currently in the middle of a few other translating projects, so anyone else is welcome to it. To be honest, I think the article could be just "Staatskapelle Dresden". Most people know the orchestra just by these two words. --Karljoos (talk) 21:04, 2 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I tend to agree that "Staatskapelle Dresden" would be the most appropriate title, as this is the name most widely used by concert promoters, record companies, radio stations and music critics in English language contexts. I note that this article has been renamed from "Dresden Staatskapelle", which was once more commonly used in the English-speaking world but seems to have fallen out of use. I also note, however, that the orchestra itself seems to prefer the full name "Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden" even in English language usage. The question is, should an encyclopedia reflect common usage or officially preferred usage? --Deskford (talk) 13:27, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Revisiting this question a couple of years down the line, I note that even the orchestra's own website has now generally adopted the form "Staatskapelle Dresden", although it still uses "Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden" in the heading. Might it now be appropriate to suggest moving the article to "Staatskapelle Dresden"? --Deskford (talk) 19:59, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The official website has no Dresdner Staatskapelle, so why was this moved? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:19, 21 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I see no discussion leading to the recent move. It should be moved back to the established title unless there is consensus for the change, which I think is unlikely. --Deskford (talk) 09:30, 21 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I've put a request at
WP:RMT for the move to be reverted. --Deskford (talk) 09:43, 21 August 2018 (UTC)[reply

Chief conductor list, Hiroshi Wakasugi

I removed Hiroshi Wakasugi's name from the list of chief conductors because there is no record anywhere of him holding that title. He was, to be certain, a regular conductor with the orchestra for a number of years, but without the actual title of chefdirigent. DJRafe (talk) 23:58, 5 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

GMD

§History: "However, Luisi resigned as chief conductor of the Staatskapelle in February 2010, effective immediately, after reports that the management had secured a contract with the ZDF network for a scheduled televised concert on New Year's Eve 2011 without consulting him at all in his capacity as the orchestra's GMD." Abbreviation not explained. General Music Director, maybe?
