Is "state trooper" synonymous with "state police officer"?

The State of California has a State Police force, which is distinct from the Highway Patrol.

Why remove Australia? State police are not primarily a US topic when there are a number of federations in the world that maintain similar organisations. All the Australian states have a police force that is by any reasonable definition a 'state police' force: a police organisation providing law enforcement services to a sub-national territory of a federal state. What is so unique about Australia? The German police is organized in a very similar manner: The primary police force is the state ("Land") police. Alberta Sheriff

The alberta sheriff does not fit as a "state police", it does not act as police force througout the whole provine, it acts as an agent of the courts, but not as a police force. As far as I can tell. If my info is incorrect, please point me to where I can find out more.

State Police in Spain.

Hi, first of all I would like to apologise because my English.

I am from Spain and I would like to notice that there are not just three "AUTONOMOUS comunities" that posses akin of "State Police". In fact, there are almost 9 different kinds of "autonomical police" here.

There are FOUR (not three) that are totally independent of the National Police Corp. Those are:

1-Policía Foral in the "Autonomous Community of Navarre"

2-Ertzaintza in the "Autonomous Community of Basque Country"

3-Mossos d'Esquadra in the "Autonomous Community of Catalonia"

4-Canarian General Police Corp in the "Autonomous Community of Canary Islands"

And they all operate in a totally independent way.

But there are other 5 Police Corps that are semi-independent of the National Police Corp:

1-Policía de la Generalidad in the "Autonomous Community of Valencia"

2-Policía de la Comunidad Autónoma de Andalucía in the "Autonomous Community of Andalucia"

3-Policía Adscrita del Principado de Asturias in the "Principality of Asturias"

4-Policía Autónoma de Galicia in the "Autonomous Community of Galicia"

5-Policía Autónoma de Aragón in the "Autonomous Community of Aragon"

They all depend on the National Police Corp. They wear the same uniform but with the propper identification of the Auntonous Community. The are committed just to guard the buildings owned by the Autonomous Community's goverments and to scort and protect other countries politicians that visit the autonomical goverment.

I do not know whow to change it in the article's page or if can. And due to my bad English I do not want to "post" HUGE mistakes on it. Could you modiffy the article, according to the info I gave to you? I do not know how to give you any reference about in English
