Original break up reason

Wasn't there an interview where one of the guys other than Jeremy said something about Jeremy locking himself in aroom for a long stretch of time around the conversion?

I added the info about the origin of LP2 from my own personal knowledge. I had a habit in high school of affixing the white CD side titles to my car. LP2 was printed on the label adorning the "pink album", regardless of offical title. I also added Jeff Palmers full name to HIFTBSO credits. Other issues: I remember reading somewhere that the Jeremy Enigk "letter" to Seth regarding Christianity was a hoax, but I'll refrain from editing until I can site a credible source. I also heard the rumor about Jeremy locking himself in his room for a month (mentioned above), but I don't think there's any credible information about that.

Jeremy's statement regarding Jesus Christ is completely consistent with Christianity. However, in his commetns on the World Waits lyric sheet he seems to reduce God to an "it" and "divine purpose" (see comments under "Wayword Love"), which is patently non-Christian. Which is it? The sheets with his latest quotes are available through his publicist. --72.187.123.205 00:21, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm removing Grunge from the list of genres. The source cited only lists the band as one of several Independent Rock artists with material released on Sub Pop. While the article is about grunge, it doesn't focus on SDRE and never calls them a grunge band.99.252.89.118 (talk) 01:55, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

But they sound grunge,i even thought so long before i saw anything saying so.Diary has elements. In fact i was the first person to add grunge to the article(as far as i can remember.did anyone add it before june 2008 or when the genres were listed as Emo,Alternative Rock & Alternative?).Please don't give me a lecture about 'Wikipedia is not based on your opinion'.--Nirvanarox55 (talk) 17:57, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

separate Discography page

Perhaps there should be a seperate discography page.i mean more detailed when it comes to the singles seeing as they don't reach the general notability guideline.

and it says nothing about the fact that 'In Circles' was acctually an EP(It has five tracks)

One

Why is there some person thinking that there was a music video for the song 'One'.And why does it say it was released as a single?i checked their detailed discography of promos and singles and there was no singles released on The Rising Tide. There is no music video, there is only a pro shot of it Live at the palace.

I'm removing that false info, and you better give a source next time you come back!

Hey there, Nirvanarox55. It was me who added the info for "One".

  • It was indeed released as a promo CD. It's listed as Time Bomb Recording TBPCD-7568, and was released in the US. It's very obscure, but it does exist. One Promo CDS

Edit: I've found one that's for sale on Ebay. Though it cannot be used as a source, it further proves its existence. Ebay

  • The music video that was filmed live at the palace seems to be the official music video. On the News section of the fan site "In the Blue", you can read that "according to Dan's recording on the official site, a music video for 'one' will be filmed at the LA show". In The Blue News Section

Nirvana

The *drummer from Nirvana and members from Sunny Day Real Estate moved on to be in the band "Foo Fighters", is that enough to make Nirvana and Sunny Day Real Estate associated acts?

(*I mean the only drummer to last longer than 2 years. haha)

Hmm I think not. But let's see what other people have to say. IF they say anything, that is. :) Neon Flow (talk) 14:31, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

establishing the genre

The second sentence says "While not the first band to be classified as emo, they were instrumental in establishing the genre". That is very misleading and the sentence should be removed. The "emo genre" was established at least 10 years before SDRE came around. Westside7777 (talk) 15:22, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

and they, at the time at least, did not want to pigeon holed as "emo core" Mopenstein (talk) 15:47, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Punk rock -> hardcore punk - Embrace's emo -> SDRE's emo -> Jimmy Eat World's "emo" -> "modern-day emo"

I believe Rites of Spring were classified as emocore before Embrace — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.228.30.55 (talk) 04:51, 13 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think the wrong isn't who ranks as Sunny Day Real Estate emo, wrong is who classifies the disgusting bands of the 2000s as emo.

It's as if all the bands in a really good genre, for example, punk rock or heavy metal, were known by a tiny audience, and then almost all of them to change their genre or end the band in two years, and ONE of the few surviving bands adhere to a horrible genre that borders on pop music's alienation of mass consumption, became famous, and the name of the really good genre stay with that horrible music. For me, this was the case of emocore. 189.106.142.201 (talk) 09:35, 3 May 2010 (UTC) I'm user Lguipontes in Portuguese Wikipedia[reply]

Genre?

Someone needs to "standardize" Sunny Day Real Estate's genre. What I'm witnessing from the couple of years I've been here, is that every now and then someone adds a genre to this page (or the albums' pages), and then someone reverts it, and it's been happening on a seemingly endless loop.

So, emo? Post-hardcore? Indie? Alternative rock? Maybe some sources would help. I've been keeping the emo genre on the first two albums and alternative rock on the last two, to mark the difference between the two eras. But technically they're all "emo". Suggestions? Neon Flow (talk) 14:52, 3 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As long as there are sources it should be fine.Cptnono (talk) 20:44, 3 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

For the band in general (covers all genres they have used with significance, even if not regular genres, or use them anymore, Alternative rock, emo, grunge (first album) for the first album, alternative rock, emo, grunge, the second album alternative rock, emo, the third album, alternative rock, emo, the fourth album just alternative rock.

if you base on what they sound like, they sound like a cross between slint (post-hardcore, math rock), alice in chains (grunge, post-grunge), radiohead and jane's addiction (alternative rock). i can't detect the slightest level of influence from any dc punk band. the bloody foofighters were more "emo" in the embrace/rites of spring sense. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.48.181.93 (talk) 07:18, 7 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sections

Separate sections of the article (Discography and References) are nestled under the Band Members section. How do I separate these sections? KevinML (talk) 12:11, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
