The Telugu name should be before the Tamil version because he is a Telugu.

He is not a Telugu instead an Audharya Vadama Brahmin, his composition was mainly sanskrit, some in Telugu and few in Tamizh, but that didn't give any liberty to alter the truth of ancestory backgound or profile. Vadamaal's are Tamizh Smartha Brahmanas and not hailed from other language regions. and the Vadama Brahmins are also known as Dravida Brahmins as when they migrated from Tamilnadu to Maharasthra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and West Bengal

Please check the facts before you comment. Do some research before you conclude that Syam sastri has not composed in Tamil. You are hell bent to prove that he was a Telugu which is untrue as his own descedants have always maintained that they are Tamilians.The same is not true with Tyaagaraja's descendants ,they still speak Telugu. Autherya Vadama is a community which is still in existence in Tamil Nadu. As far as surnames are concerned.,Tamil brahmins are like any other brahmins, the usage of shastri,sharma,bajpayee, dikshitar etc were common in Tamil Nadu in medieval period.Some examples apart form Syam Sastri- Bajpaye (saint),Srinivasa Satri,Suryanaryana Satri(Tamil movement) ,Apppayya Diskhit-Saint etc. (appa ayya is a pure Tamil name) again a Vadama subsect.During freedom struggle surnames were dropped. Caste division by the intruders in TN was predominant.The same has continued till date partly because of politicians. Again, Thiruvarur is in proper Tanjore districr Tamil Nadu,and in post Chola period it was for a brief period ruled by Muslim invaders,pandayas and Vijayanagar rulers until it was taken over by Marathas who ruled unitl British invasion. Telugu was introduced in Tanjavur Court during Vijayanagar rule and continued even during Maratha period . chinni September 5 2005 I just came across a note on Compositions of Syama Sastri by T M McComb in the internet which is reproduced below; "Subsequently, the doctoral thesis on Shyama Shastri compositions by Y. Saradhambal was consulted. This resulted in the addition of the kriti nannukaruNiHnci, the adjustment of the raga for ninnuvinA marigaladA, the tala for taruNamidammA, and the marking of numerous items as questionable. Due both to style and chronology, Dr. Y. Saradhambal believes these items to be inauthentic, although most have appeared in more than one modern source. This step occurred in 2008."

I would like to know whether the kriti "nannukaruNiHnci" could be added to the Compositions of Syama Sastri and take it as authenticated.

There appears to be a number of contradictions about the subject's family. His father were previously named Visvanathayya here. But sources such as this one name him as Visvanatha Iyer (in keeping with the confusion of whether they were Telugu or Tamil). However the book in question which is published by T&F in 1995 appears to have plagiarised portions from this book that Google dates to 1986. It doesn't look terribly reliable. I have already relegated the Telugu/Tamil background to a note.
