I heard this when I was in Taizhou back in 2004 for a day-trip, but even the locals prefaced this with the explanation that his official biography says that he was born in Jixi, Anhui province.

No, the official biography didn't say he was born in Jixi. He is a native of Jixi, this didn't mean he was born in Jixi. It means that his family, may be several generations ago, was from Jixi.See Ancestral home.--刻意(Kèyì) 10:33, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
