Even the Beatles recorded The Happy Wanderer! They sing part of a verse and the Valderi-Valdera refrain, a cappella, in a bus scene in their movie, Magical Mystery Tour (1967). His Manliness (talk) 05:49, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The German version of wikipedia says that it is not a wholly original composition, but based on earlier songs. And the lyrics it shows from those earlier version bear a definite resemblance to the later one. I guess this is common in the folk idiom - if you look at OVER THE HILLS AND FAR AWAY and how many versions there are.

If "During WWII, a more military version of the song became immensely popular with the German paratroopers" is correct, there MUST have been earlier versions! (There may not be any truth in the suggestion that a version was originally composed to be sung by Siegmund at some point in Die Walküre, his father being, of course, The Wanderer) 209.93.158.253 (talk) 16:55, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Bygraves made a classic live recording of the song, e.g. [1], apparently with a children's choir. But his catalogue of so full of compilations and re-releases that I have found it imopssible to date it. Any ideas/ further details? Martinevans123 (talk) 23:32, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The reference only disappeared with the last edit by Trivialist. (Google still shows an old copy with the name included.) Here are a couple of internet references; I don't know what qualifies.
