This journal is controversial

This journal is controversial within the economics profession, for reasons not stated in the article. There are two related issues. One is that while it is supposedly peer-reviewed, in practice most articles are written by the faculty, students, and friends of the Harvard economics department. The editors actually tell people to send them their papers, a big no-no for a refereed journal. The other issue is that it has come to display a strong preference for work that is "cute" but rarely very substantial. This it is viewed as contributing to the "Freakonomics" direction in academic economics.

The article should discuss these issues.

  • Many economists feel that way. But I think that we shouldn't include this controversy unless there are credible references that document this fact. --CronopioFlotante (talk) 21:12, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
