This article makes many assertations about Mr. Scott which need to be footnoted. Example: "He is considered by some to be the most successful white-collar criminal in American history." Example: "All his efforts helped bring about the "selection" of Hayes as president over Tilden." The article then discusses the causes of the American Revolution. More unverified statements are presented.

The link to "Robber Baron [industrialist]" was followed. The usual suspects [Gould, Drew, Astor, etal.] are there. Scott is not.

The problem with the article as written thus far is not mainly its bias. It needs reworking. In fact, Tom Scott WAS a significant figure among the robber barons and did play a key role in the Hayes-Tilden outcome. I posted a reference which covers this extensively. Under the heading Railroads, there is this sentence: "Gibson employed the expertise of Grenville Dodge in buying the support of newspaper editors as well as various politicians in order to build public support for the subsidies." Who is "Gibson"? Should that be "Scott"? Gibbative (talk) 03:10, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm considering adding a section on Scott's role in the railroad strike of 1877, considering that this article already has sections on the Civil War, Reconstruction, etc, I feel it would be only logical.

In particular there's one quote of him saying that the strikes should be given the "rifle diet" for a few days, so they can see how they "like that bread".

I performed some cleanup of this article while waiting for a computer to update, and today while waiting for ice to melt and a car windshield treatment to dry. However, it needs considerable more work. For example, his widow is mentioned at the end, but never named (nor is his marriage mentioned). Frankly, I would prefer the article to be more than an advertisement for books listed in the bibliography (but which may well never have been consulted:() Jweaver28 (talk) 20:17, 22 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Isn't it a problem with his birth and death dates ? There are not the same beetwen text and frame on the right... ?

Our town celebrating 150 years incorporated in 1874. Prior to that year our town was known as Fountain Mills. According to our historian the town was renamed after him when he brought a spur of the railroad through town. It has remained a railroad town ever since with the SWP (Southwest Pennsylvania railroad) here now. Do you have any collaboration on this we can share with the 150th committee?
