It happened again. Many Russian vehicles and parts thereof were accused of being a ripoff copy of something made in the west, when the story is another. It could just as well have been licenced, or the similarity is just due to elements of contemporary styling and technology. There was no cold war until after the hot one. In case of the UAZ 450, the only connection to Jeep is being based on the successor of a vehicle (GAZ-64) inspired by the Willys millitary jeep used by the Red Army during WW2. This vehicle had no technical similarities to the Willys, it was just a vehicle of the same type. I hardly think the Russians would bother to copy the technology of the Jeep FC when they already had the GAZ-69. Besides, the development work on the UAZ 450 started in 1953 (see Russian wiki) and thus it cannot be a copy of a vehicle that reached the market in 1956.
