• Oppose - Even acknowledging that the official map uses the proposed spelling, Uruchcha seems to be the more

That's completely abnormal and totally insane situation that instead of any traditional national Belarusian Latin name (which is now an official as well) some people push the Russian-oriented name that is a heritage of Russian colonial system. If some national language has its own Latin alphabet (and Belarusian definitely has it) all national names (maybe exempt some small amount of mostly widespread, but the case of historical English Vilna proves that there are no traditional English names for Belarusian places) for other languages SHOULD BE keeped unchanged according to the national language. That's a normal world practice. • Support. Uručča is the proper name. Also Wikipedia:Naming_conventions_(geographic_names) states: "Major cities (voblast capitals) are named according to the most common English usage. All other settlements are named according to national rules (exceptions may be discussed case by case)". • Support. I live in Minsk and can state that Uručča is commonly recognizable name of the metro station among local people. If we take a look at Google Maps or Wikimapia, these resources use naming of Belarusian objects according to the Instruction on transliteration of Belarusian geographical names with letters of Latin script.
