I have removed this text - "... and may illustrate the parable of the
reliquaries
or similar religious objects). Until there are articles published, pinning this on a comment in a blog seems to overstate the case for this particular key artefact in the Treasure.
Looking at Ruth E. Leader-Newby (2004), Silver and Society in Late Antiquity: Functions and Meanings of Silver Plate in the Fourth to Seventh Centuries, Ashgate Publishing, Ltd., ISBN 978-0-7546-0728-1 (I have a copy at home) seems useful as a source for this area, with chapter 3 (Sacred silver) quite helpful for comparison artefacts.
