Improvements on their way...

I have other sources of information (online) which I am going to add over the next few days.

I saw mention of Stanley's memorial service in this weeks' Croydon Post, and looked him up on here, and found nothing! So, I thought I'd start an article.

If anyone else has

reliable information they can add, please feel free to do so! -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 02:00, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply

I have added information from the
Croydon Guardian's website. Later today, I am going to Norbury library (my local) and Croydon Central library. South Norwood
library is closed today, so I'll try to get there tomorrow or at the beginning of next week.
I have also contacted both the
Croydon Post and the Croydon Guardian. They have photographs connected with Stanley in online articles which look old - so I am asking if they are in the Public Domain (in which case I can easily upload them) or if not, who the copyright holder is, so that I can contact them for permission! -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 11:23, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply

I have got information to add to the article from my research at the library. I'll be adding that to the article in the next couple of days. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 14:46, 1 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Change that to... "I'll add it soon" - life has been busy, and when I've been on Wikipedia, I've been distracted by other things! But tomorrow I will add more information (I've got a copy of the entry in Owen, W.B. (1912). Sir Sidney Lee. ed (in English). Dictionary of National Biography. Second Supplement. III (NEIL-YOUNG). London: Smith, Elder & Co.. pp. 393-394., and of course as a British holder of a library ticket, I can get access to McConnell, Anita (2004). "Stanley, William Ford Robinson (1829–1909)" (in English). Oxford Dictionary of National Biography. Oxford University Press., as well as having to hand a copy of Akpan, Eloïse (2000) (in English). The Story of William Stanley - A Self-made Man. London: Eloïse Akpan.
ISBN 0-9538577-0-0. So, I've got a lot of information that I can add! -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 15:42, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply

Membership of societies

I have contacted the Society of Antiquaries, to confirm that he was a fellow (the RMetS has FSA on his details, so I assume it's the Soc of Ant.). Hopefully they will confirm his membership, along with the date he became a fellow. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 12:05, 8 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have received an e-mail from the Society of Antiquaries, informing me that Stanley wasn't one of their Fellows! They suggested it might have been the Royal Society of Arts, so I have contacted them to see if it was! -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 14:18, 8 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have also contacted the British Astronomical Association about his membership -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 00:54, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Images for article

I am going to see if I can find some free-use images (I'll visit the local history section of Croydon Library, which will have information about Stanley, and hopefully some suitable images). However, real-life will affect when that can be done! -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 18:02, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Update: I have some PD pictures, which I hope to add to the article soon! -- PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 12:54, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Problems with a couple of citations...

For some reason the William F Stanley Trust website (williamfstanley.org) is not allowing access (it comes up with a 403 Forbidden error). I am hoping that this will be resolved soon (perhaps they haven't paid the hosting bill yet!), so I am keeping it as a deadlink, and will check from time to time to see if it's back online.

Likewise, the "Fellows AI" at Oxford University (reference 27 as the article currently stands) is timing out, so I have labelled it as a deadlink. Again, this may be a temporary problem (although probably not because of not paying the bill this time!), so I will check from time to time to see if it's working again. -- PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 09:45, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
