Interesting article, but I question the NPOV in the statement "unofficial national sport". These sound like

Claims that massive support for the women's game existed based on evidence like the huge attendance at Goodison Park seem dubious. Is anyone able to confirm if the Northumberland County Women's Football League has folded? Their social media and full-time sites haven't been updated since May and their website is dead. I can't find any official statement about the league folding, so I don't want to jump to incorrect conclusions. I haven't removed it from the league pyramid on this article yet. — GasHeadSteve _[TALK] 09:35, 21 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The Independent site is a rare place where primary sources from the 1990s are widely available (on many topics from that era of history).
