@Number 57: Take a look at this article: [1]. They were called Wrexham AFC until 2006, when they switched to FC, and then switched back again recently. So in 1992, they were Wrexham A.F.C. This is also mentioned in the article, Wrexham A.F.C.#2001–2010, seventh paragraph: "Wrexham Football Club (2006) Ltd is the name of the "phoenix" company that took over the assets of the old Wrexham Association Football Club Limited – technically, the club is no longer known as Wrexham Association Football Club due to the takeover of the club by Neville Dickens and Geoff Moss and their associates; this is reflected on new merchandise, although most fans will still refer to it as "Wrexham AFC"." Wrexham A.F.C. 2–1 Arsenal F.C. → Wrexham 2–1 Arsenal (1992) – The A.F.C. and F.C. abbreviations appearing after each team in this article's title are effectively useless, as the team names provide enough disambiguation – Wrexham 2–1 Arsenal (1992). WP:CONCISE says that a title should "balance brevity with sufficient information to identify the topic to a person familiar with the general subject area"; the proposed title is more than enough information to satisfy this criteria, the abbreviations cloud and confuse the title when the proposed title is already clear to someone familiar to the sport. Additionally, the year in brackets is added to satisfy the general consensus w.r.t. titling of most notable association football match articles. In reference to: Liverpool 9–0 Crystal Palace (1989), Sutton United 2–1 Coventry City (1989), and Cat:FL matches. I recognise that the title formatting for notable football matches is dreadfully inconsistent (and I believe it should be reformed), but I'd like to think this is a 'tap-in'. Oppose as suggested. I agree that naming for these kind of articles is inconsistent, but the use of abbreviations is key in making it clear it's a football match being referred to. I'd be content with a move to Wrexham A.F.C. 2–1 Arsenal F.C. (1992) as a compromise, and use that format as the basis for similar articles. Giant Snowman 14:47, 10 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
